    Default Network Cable

    Hi

Im building a new house and looking to install network cables to all rooms.

I have been doing a bit of a search online and it looks like cat6 may be the best.

Does anyone have any advice or suggest a better cable.

I'm wanting to future proof as much as possible.

    Regards

    Bob

Cat6 should be the best for you, just make sure it's good quality cable as you don't want to be replacing it once ran.

cat6 is going to be your best bet in the long run.
Get good cable from a decent supplier and get decent crimp and idc tools. the ones you get on ebay may be cheap but that's because they're poor quality and aren't as good as a proper set.

Personally I wouldn't bother with Cat6 and go with cat5e it is highly unlikely that you will follow all the requirements to install Cat6 mainly due to the expense and a home install there is not normally the space for cable supports in ceilings and floors and space is usually tight so the chances of damaging the cable due to bending it round tight corners and all the other crap in a house, Cat 6 and the regulations are really designed for offices and other building installs with lots of space for the cables to have nice arches and be able to follow paths. The fact your doing a new build you probably could accommodate it but I still wouldn't bother, cat5e will do all you need and cost you less.

if you want a drive to Bolton you can have some cable for free

Yeah unless you are plugging into Cat6 switches then there is no point running it as not only are each pair shielded but so are the terminations.

My advice is tho make sure you run 2 atleast 2 cables to each room as once it in the wall theres no replacing a faulty cable ;-)

Also plan it wel, put the switch central to the house so none of the cables are too long remember no cable should be longer than 100m but I wouldn't run one over 50m if I could help it

    Thanks to akimba

I'm refurbing my house. I've got two cables going to each corner of each habitable room and a handful to various locations in the kitchen. The sitting room has about 4 to each corner and where the TV will be.
