    Default Solar Panels Help

    Hey all,

Need a bit of advice as i not really clued up when it comes to solar panels.

Recently bought my own house trying to save cash ect.

    I got a visit from energy-hypermarket offering 12 Solar Panels (3KW)/Power reducer/Smart meter/LED bulbs

    All for 10 Grand.

I am not sure if this is a good deal or not
taking a loan out to pay for it over 10 years 135 per Month.

But the feed in tariff as well as the savings it "Should" pay for its self.

They are also offering a TLS card (cash back card that you link to 5 bank cards)

Over all they say i should be no worse off ect but i am not really clued up in the feed in tariffs and the readability of them ect

Don't want to really leave my self short each month ect

What do you think Cancel or Proceed with it?

£10K for a 3 KW system seems very expensive. Did you get three quotes from three different companies to compare?

I got a 4KW system for £5K two years ago and I believe they are getting cheaper now.

Also try to avoid getting a smart meter. You want to use as much of the generated electricity as you can and still get paid for an assumed 50% exported.

Recently I got hounded on my doorstep from a company wanting to use my roof and would install panels for free.
I wondered how they could be offering to install for free and found this information extensive and covered most pros and cons on it.

Interested to hear other DF'ers views though.

I was in IKEA the other month. They have a independent sales team trying to sell a solar panel system for around £3.500. The company is from Germany and the panels are guaranteed for 25 years. The inverter was only covered for 5 or 10 years i think but you can extend the warranty to 20 years for around £300. They will even check your roof while you are there to see if your properties correctly facing the right direction. Explained all the feed in prices. no hard sales as well. i was tempted myself there and then but i want to do some more research before committing.

I would recommend going if you have a IKEA near you.

    4 Thanks given to gaz188
