Attention Warning about memory sticks on ebay inluding micro sd cards sold on ebay

Warning about memory sticks on ebay inluding micro sd cards sold on ebay

There is a heck of a lot of sellers on ebay at the minute selling FAKE memory cards, these have been re-flashed in the factory to make it look like they have more space than they actually have!!! be warned, these can fook up very easily if you try to put more data on than its actually meant to have. If you have not backed up your data this will mean you will lose it forever. I have proof attached to these posts.
if you look on ebay the sellers are trying to get around it by saying this at the bottom of their listings (this is taken from an actual ebay listing today!!)
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE LISTING BEFORE YOU BUY

THEY ARE IN SEALED PACKAGES SO WE CANNOT CHECK THEM
after selling over 100 of these I have found they have fault rate of 1 in 50
if you are unlucky enough to get one of these do no worry
We replace or refund any faulty cards once they are returned

    THESE ARE UPGRADED MEMORY CARDS

STORAGE SPACE WILL VARY IN EACH CARD AND CAN BE UPTO 128GB OR LESS

IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE ABOVE PLEASE DO NOT BUY

IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE LISTING PLEASE DO NOT BUY

Don't risk losing your data or being RIPPED OFF by these assholes, its all over ebay, some are even saying that their so called 128gb cards might be anything from 8gb up to 126gb. shocking really.
I bought one to prove my point, a 64gb usb stick, when I stripped it down this is what I found: you can see that the memory when the case is taken off that it says 8gb, I tried to put around 32 gb of files onto this stick and it would not allow me to do it and it crashed. here is the stick showing the 64gb on the front, something needs to be done

What would be worrying is if they also contained key logger software or some form of Trojan virus.

The main reason ive brought this up is that a guy in Manchester has said that the UK market is about to be flooded with these fakes. millions are being sold on the black market so make sure what you are buying is real

You'd have to run some form of exe file for that to happen.
I'm not saying it's not possible, but it would require user intervention to run said file.

@Pegasus actually you can currently use tools which have just released to hack into any device that uses usb, this means it can run unsigned code, run commands and it can be used to run exe's
im just trying to find the bbc article on this now

    @ Det

Nothing amazes me any more mate, although I was thinking more along the lines of a simple .inf file and the end user blindly clicking yes (like we all do from time to time).

If we read the T&C's it would take about 3 months to install most software packages !!!!!

sadly Det this has been going on for years, had loads of people bring me their 32GB/64GB memory card only to find out that the internal memory is anywhere from 1-4GB
once the end of the card is reached it either starts to corrupt the data at random parts of the memory or just plain crashes and you lose everything
not good and had a fair amount of students crying over the years at work too when they have bought something similar and lost all their work over the weekend

best advice: dont buy memory sticks on ebay!
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

A lot of branded sticks contain their own propriety software for backups, encryption etc.. this could the trojan exe file that the user clicks.
