Question Htpc - ipad iphone apps.

    Hi guys

i'm still trying to get the most effective set up for my media streaming. including atv2, atv3 and wdtv live.

the only one of the above I've got working how I like is the atv2 jb running plex and xbmc but of course that only does 720p not 1080p.

my final option is to stick a low profile graphics card in my n54l and run plex etc directly from that. However I need to work out how to control the n54l running whs2011.

does anybody have any recommendations for iphone or ipad apps to control windows / plex when running on the server which is sat behind the TV? There are a few on the App Store but wanted some proper feedback.

If you want to control a PC remotely using an iPad, you could do worse than Splashtop.

I use Google Chrome Remote desktop for my N54l works great from a PC and from a phone. Also works withoit the PC being logged on either so ibe got my server running 2012 which i hardly logon too and plex running in a windows 8.1 vm in hyper v that auto logs in etc. I do my downloading oj this as well so any issues with viruses etc i just revert back to the snapshot. I use chrome remote desktop to access this as well.

For torrents i have a shared google drive folder as a watched folder in utorrent that i drop torrents into from my phone so no need to logon to start new downloads.

    Thanks to liveseytowers

So, there is this thing in Windows as standard called RDP - Remote Desktop Protocol.

    Android Install
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...droid&hl=en_GB

    iOS Install
    https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/micr...714464092?mt=8

Created by Microsoft and free on App/Play Store.
Because it's Microsoft, any Laptop/PC can also RDP into your WHS2011 Server running on your N54L.

Use it all the time and it's native to Windows so just works (usually).
RDP does need activating in System Properties > Remote.

I also forward certain ports on my router and can RDP using 3G or from a mates PC at his place.

    Need assistance, let me know.

    Thanks to DejaVu

I've tried splashtop and team viewer on the iPad/iPhone and splashtop really is the mutts nuts. Deffo worth a purchase.
That's how I have my media playing, pc behind the tv running Plex and Splashtop to control the Windows side of it.
After a while you forget you're actually using an iPad as the interface it's that good!
Ooh, ooh, ooh, the funky gibbon.

    Thanks to funkyg

Thanks guys. Never realised there was an RDP app ffs! I RDP into it on the laptop all the time but wanted the convenience of the phone iPad when I'm watching.

What has intrigued me the most is your setup livesy. That looks exactly like the sort of sort up I'd like. It could also solve my issues with trying to set up plex connect on atv3 which is a nightmare as it used the same ports as Http login using IIS. I may pm you or start a new thread asking for your advice on setting that up.
