Default Good Price for 4TB drives?

    Hi Guys,

I need more space in my server! So I looked at the 6TB drives which look great but are still in few independent hands so no reliable data and cost £204+ each and I want two so I'm looking at £400 minimum for 12TB.

Then I thought, three 4TB drives are the better choice. So I went on Flubit and they've come back with:

    3 x 4TB Red = £379.74

    or

    3 x 4TB HGST H3IK40003272SE 0S03356 IDK Deskstar = £409.44 haha

Do you think the price for the reds is a good one? If the HGST price is lower I will probably take it

I picked up a 4 TB red two or three weeks back for 107 inc VAT from Aria. So 379 for three is a bit much.

Was it from a retailer? If there's something I would avoid buying from eBay it would be any device used to store data unless it was from a reputable tech supplier (so there is warranty, returns and sufficient packaging).

Let us know when/if they turn up. Don't mean to sound negative, but I always order from retailers only eBay after being stitched up so many times.

I've seen the auction you mean (and the dude's feedback is promising) and I don't mean to use you as a guinea pig... but if they show for you, I might order a couple.

I second not buying HDD's on ebay. A lot of people selling refurbs and OEM's as new.

Got caught out myself. I didn't end up using or checking one I bought for a couple of months. Came to use it and it was dead. No warranty from manufacturer as it was OEM and no help from ebay as I was outside of the 30 day money back guarantee period. I lost out far more than the £10 I saved over buying from a reputable retailer.

There are obvioulsy genuine sellers on ebay and I'm sure all will be well for you. But I've learnt my lesson. Once bitten twice shy as they say.

Received the tracking number which states Monday at the latest. As soon as they arrived, I will format and test them both in my main rig. Then I'll update you guys

What is the hard drive testing software called again?

I'm happy to be the guinea pig mate, if/when they arrive I'll check WD warranty site, if legit I'll probably order another two and then I'll order another four before Christmas as so the server if full of drives

    8 x 4TB = 32TB of TV & Film goodness

Update: Both hard drives have arrived and according to WD Warranty Checker both drives are legit and are in warranty until 30/04/2017. Once formatted and installed into my server I will post another update.

Update 3: Both drives have been cleared by UnRAID. I have one as a data drive and the other as a parity drive which will take ages! 2.4% done, ten hours to go lol.

    I want more now!

Just worth noting they will most likely be Green or Blue drives, only reason I am saying this is the OP was talking about Reds for NAS/Server
