    Default Mouth ulcers

    Anyone suffer from these?

I have some massive mouth ulcers at the moment along the inside of my cheek and on my tongue on the same side which are driving me crazy can only think I have been chewing my cheek / tongue during the night to get them - finding it hard to eat and even drink without it causing me pain - all I could get from the chemists was corsodyl mouthwash which seems to dull them but it says to use it only twice a day, am finding myself having to use it every cpl of hours to relieve the pain . . . Does anyone know why it says only to use this stuff twice a day and if there are any harmful effects to using it more?

Anyone got any better forms of relief that I can get over the counter or from the docs I can ask for? The mouth gels etc seem a bit pointless as the get rubbed off nearly straight away

just getting stuck into a bottle of rum which does seem to be helping but cant drink constantly until they fuck off

I get these every so often, i grind my teeth lots even when i'm asleep, or so i've been told, so think i must sometimes grind the inside of my mouth to so i get sores like you describe.

Corsodyl is excellent but expensive, i just gargle with salt water, hope you get sorted soon.

Just found a bottle of anbesol from years ago - http://www.echemist.co.uk/p-anbesol-...FZQZtAodqhQAlQ

Off to whack that around my mouth

Yep anbesol is the way to go if anyone else has them - totally numbs the area you apply it to - stings like fuck when you put it on but fuck me it is good when it kicks in

Get some vitamins down ye, you scurvy dog.

The gels help for a short while, but if the pain is really bad there is an oral anaesthetic cream you can get at the chemist. Can't remember the name of if but it works a charm. It's about a fiver for 5ml which is expensive but you only need a tiny amount. But if you go for the anaesthetic, stick to drinking through a straw and avoid chewing until it wears off (so you don't munch your cheeks off) and let yourself heal.

If your ulcers are very common, it sounds like a textbook case of malnourishment. If you really think its from chewing at night, get a mouthgard.

P.S. I've got the cream somewhere in the house, I'll try and get the name for you.

Brush my teeth at least twice a day and use mouthwash when I have a shower once a day - also floss 3-4 times a week. Have a sonicare diamond clean toothbrush and an airfloss - my dental care is not a problem . . .

I do seem to be prone to getting mouth ulcers though - I believe as above I must grind my teeth in my sleep / often seem to have sharp bits of teeth which I seem to ram my tongue into during the night

Also I have a pretty good diet and take vitamin tablets so do think the night time chewing of my cheeks / tongue is the problem

Has been a problem for a fair long time with ulcers on my tongue etc but never been so bad that I have had to properly think about fixing it.

Night time guard thing is looking like a good idea although it seems a bit odd - are they ultra thin etc? Don't want to be sleeping with a full on rugby style shield in

The night guards are nowhere near as big as sports gumshields. Never used one so I don't know how it is but I guess you'd just get used to it.

Ulcers on your tongue as well though... are you a vegetarian?

I have been in the same situation and have had ulcers for at least 10 year. There wouldn't be one day when i didn't have at least one ulcer in my mouth. I have good oral hygiene so it was never down to that.

I used to get a paste from my gp called adcortyl in orabase.

This worked wonders as it formed a protective barrier and it did last, unfortunately it is now discontinued. But when I went to local chemist they suggested similar items.
I must have tried every thing going. At the moment the thing that helps me is Aloclair plus gel. It is a similar to the prescribed one other than the fact it is gel and not paste.
Along with this and some corsodyl, these do seem to help me.
A tip though is to see your dentist if you have recurrent ulcers.
They prescribed me corsodyl , so I didn't need to buy it.
Although I am not sure if this is just because I am in Scotland? Worth a shot though.

One more thing I noticed too was that they seemed to be worse depending on which foods I ate or things I drank.

My gp always said spicy foods did not help them so I kept a food journal for a while.
After I done this, I got it down to 2/3 likely things. the times I noticed them more was when I had been eating bread, cheese or drinking vodka.

I now only have each of these occasionally and have noticed a significant reduction in the amount I now get.
    Hope this helps

    2 Thanks given to Karoline

I have always been led to believe that mouth ulcers were a result in being "run down" and as such you use the gels ect to numb them but to treat the underlying issue maybe take a look at your overall vitamin intake and lifestyle as a whole.

Yea I have seen a lot about them being more to being run down and I have had a cold recently which probs does not help - think I have made the connection now for me though that it is due to me grinding my teeth / chewing my cheek etc while I am asleep.

As above I have a good diet and take vitamin tablets to suppement this so don't think that is a problem for me.

me too, but they seem to appear at times of "being run down". Salt water and anbesol appear to work as does salty fish n chips

I always found a application of bonjela works. Stings like hell but ulcers disappear within a day or two
