Bad News Apple repairs? iphone 4s and macbook air

OK so its been a great week, the boy has an iPhone 4s now with a cracked screen just the touch LCD is fine, does anyone on here do repairs? rather give cash to someone recommended on here than a local shop.

Next we get a call from the girl who was bought an MacBook air for her birthday about 2 month ago not new 2nd hand and its not that new I believe its a late 2010 model and I hear her dad paid a fortune for it so she is upset. anyway the screen has gone in this one damaged in the top left of the screen no sign of damage to the case or anything but it needs a new screen again anyone on here do them? seeing scary prices from apple of $800 / £500

Normally I would never repair a laptop so old but to he its only 2 months old and her dad got ripped off I feel £1500 for it ffs

The iPhone 4S is a simple repair and you can find many comprehensive guides online. Should only take you about an hour to do and the part is now only around £12.
If you still don't want to, cover part and postage and I'll do it.

I have replaced hundreds of screens on laptops, tablets and phones and the Mac Book Air is by far the worst and hardest to change and the danger of fucking something else up in the process is very high.
Apple uses far too much bonding glue in their laptops.

If you want, send the phone with the Air together and I'll take a look at repairing them.
I'll have to charge for the Air as they are so difficult - although will be Beer Money rates.

I have also known of people replacing the entire Screen Assembly instead to avoid the grief of dismantling it.

Yeah the replacement screen assembly seems to the be route that apple take, I have seen instructions to do that in it is a fairly simple job but I don't really want to pay the prices that I have read. do you know of anywhere offering better prices? plus I have no idea which one I need to buy.

Thanks for the offer to take a look as well will probably take you up on it.

could you give me a rough cost for the MacBook as well please?

I recently did a panel replacement on an Apple Air Retina model, never again! Took something stupid like 3+ hours and then once reassembled (perfect I might add) there was no backlight. Turns out the panel supplier sent me a different revision of the panel which wouldn't power the backlight which is separate to the LCD panel. I ended up getting a top assembly and the repair was easy but the assembly is expensive... No chance of being covered by contents insurance?

If you get me the model of the Macbook I can get you a quote, it's on the bottom of the Mac e.g. A1425.

    @Littlejohn.
Screen Assemblies usually go for around £260, but I've seen them selling as low as £140 from water damaged laptops.

The screen itself are a Samsung LSN133BT01-A01. If you can find it anywhere cheaper than £135. I'd love to know where.

Yeah they are about the prices I am seeing all over the place.

I'm not sure what is happening with it yet as her Dog needs an operation and the insurance are refusing to pay out so laptop fixed or £600 for her dogs leg to be fixed?

I would be going laptop fixed and dog put down and save a few hundred quid but I'm not a fan of animals especially with a 3 month old baby in the house

My supplier has the full assembly for £270 plus £12 postage but I am visiting them tomorrow if you want me to pick one up and save postage?

Replacing assemblies is simple but iFixit claimed the Macbook Air Retina A1425 panel replacement was impossible so pretty proud I managed it and the end result was visually perfect
