Default wifi dongle thingy for sim card

Im looking at getting a 3 sim card with some data on it.

I'll either tether from a handset or get a separate dongle wifi hotspot type thingy

anyone had experience of these and able to recommend one? (or advise any i should stay away from)?

    cheers peeps

I've recently got to like the Dell standard ones - most of their business grade laptops let you fit a card for 3G. On some models fitting this enables the SIM card slot meaning it is ready to go, while some models don't have WWAN aerials unless ordered with WWAN option.

What I really like is never forgetting, loosing or breaking the external USB dongle because it's built into my pc.

Also I remember when being responsible for load of 3G dongles, I would only purchase dongles* that had the connector (MMCX?) that let you plug in external aerials as these could make a massive difference.

    * If I was really after a particular dongle which didn't have an MMCX connector, I would cut it up and add an SMA connector.

    Thanks to Over Carl

Any benefits over tethering say an old iPhone 4?

I dunno about the iphone, but I found USB tethering with Android to be usable. Wifi tethering is painful but does work.

However I will admit to being strongly biased against wireless connections if a wired alternative is available.
