    Default PC not booting

My PC is not booting up. When I press the button on the front, nothing happens. I thought it may be a faulty power supply but when I opened up the case, I can see a light on on the motherboard. Could it be a faulty power switch?

Its possible, so the fans don't spin and there is no sign of any activity when you press the power button? Is the light on the inside connected to the network port?

It could still be a faulty PSU, you can disconnect everything from the motherboard except the 20-24 pin power, CPU power, CPU, RAM and the front panel connector (power button, HDD light etc.) then try again. It could also be RAM causing it to fail POST so if you have two modules try removing one and swapping them around etc. You can also clear the CMOS using mobo jumpers to reset the BIOS.

Did anything lead up to this?

    Thanks to evilsatan

Seen this loads. Definitely the PSU. Usually not enough life in it anymore to juice up the Motherboard.

    However -
    Try this too

Leave PC plugged in, switch off at the wall (just so it's earthed). Hold the power button for 60 seconds (opening the circuit to drain static). Switch on, power up.
Reason for this is too much static build up on the motherboard and it has gone into self preservation mode.

No activity at all when I power on.

Was working fine then just stopped.

Have fixed plenty with these symptoms by doing just as EvilSatan says.
    Clearing BIOS.
If you can't find which jumper is used to clear BIOS then remove little watch type battery and leave for a few mins.
