Help Time to upgrade my old TV

Its been two year now that i have move to my own house. Time to update my old 26" LCD TV that i had for 8-10 years now.

I have been looking at LG 49UB850V its hit all the marks (when firmware is updated), yes its the first gen UHD, but around £899 not to bad on price.
only bad points I could find:
    1) No contents, there not much out there, but in time there will be.
    2) I have a media pc, there no HDMI 2 graphic card out there, so no full 4K from the media pc. (not yet)
    3) The most important issue I have, its the wife , she hasn't see the this model yet, but she doesn't want over 42".

The main points of my new TV will be great picture, and passive 3D (Yes I want 3D, and I don't care what I look like when i put the glass on so there ) with the 49UB850V i can get 1080p 3D.

But just in case the wife say no , I need to find a 42", but there so many out there. But I also want a good sound bar to go with the new TV. I got a mach with the 49UB850V, with a budget of £1200 total.

So want I need help on:

    1) If you got the 49UB850V, any tips and advise & setting
    2) Any advise on 42" to 46" set, I will look into sound bars, due to my TV stand size.

I not going to rush in buy any thing until end of January 2015, the wife flying for x-mas to see her family, while I am at work doing much over time I can. I will show her to UHD in currys when see get back with my finger cross.

I know someone with microscopes for eyes will say otherwise, but unless its virtually coming for free, I wouldn't strive for 4K.

One thing you can do to convince the missus about the TV size is go to a store where they have them on display and comment how much smaller the 42 looks than your expectations, since the showrooms are generally bigger than the average living room, the screens look smaller than you'd expect. We have a 50" in our modest living room and it feels small since the wall its on is quite large and its open plan-ish.

I know 4K isn't all that at the moment, but any new TV i buy will hopefully last many many years to come. That why there no rush for us. I am still open minded to go to 42", but there seem too many sets that all have different good points and bad points. The thing I don't care about is smart TV, that what my media PC for. I might send a few hours in currys just checking the real size out see what will look good in our living room.

Even tho my heart set on the LG 49UB850V, but TV isn't every thing .......

Isn't it odd that women don't care about size when it comes to tech but when it comes to the trouser snake...

Just tell her 42" is too small. I've currently got 2 x 42" screens and a 47" - wish I'd gone for one over 50" now as my new place has a large living room and 47" seems too small. By the way I got all those when I was single lol.

Well i bought the LG 49UB850V, the picture look great, 100 times improvement over my old LCD TV, the sound bar I bought at the same time help even more.

Now for the good points & bad points with the set for 24hrs

    Good points
    1) Firmware was already updated
    2) Got currys to hand over more glass for the 3D for free
    3) Picture in 1080p, 2k, 4k looks awesome (in app with youtbue)
    4) 1080p passive 3D looks good

    Bad points
    1) My old media centre can't even handle 2k (youtube)
    2) No flash support on the LG web services, so can't steam football (Premier League Pass)
    3) The app store is limited, but they do have all netflix, amazon prime, etc. But are a bit slow
    4) webos, I will get use to it, but there no help on how to use it. I have pick up a lot, but feel there some thing missing

Most of the bad point not real issues for me, the LG set has taken some uses from my media centre. If I can find what type of 2k/4k files it will work from would be great. The only app that I want is full Google Chrome web browser with all the extension, this would put my media centre up for sale.

If you need more web/app services consider getting a Chromecast dongle - for 30 quid you can then stream stuff from your phone to the TV (BT Sport/Plex etc.) all in 1080p.

I am not there yet. Haven't even fully played with my set yet. Got to get a new HDD for my htpc. Plex only played around once. Will sort out the VIP next week.
