Default Laptop with dual graphics cards and a game

So my laptop has dual graphics cards. And Intel onboard piece of shit and a GeForce gtx 890m

A game I used to play many moons ago was Star Trek armada 2 - and a nod to go with it called Fleet ops

This game is well over 6years old I would say, possibly older

The game only recognises my Intel card. And I've tried the usual of disabling the Intel card to force the game to run with the nividia card, but it crashes upon startup

I've tried right clicking the game and run with nvidia card but again no joy

Want to run this game at max settings and it isn't possible with the shitty onboard Intel card.

Any ideas on how to get the game to recognise the nividia card?

have you tried installing older directX drivers, they are usually found on the install cd for the game.

    you may need DX9 installing.

use dxdiag to check if you have.

    Will dx9 overwrite dx11?

the game requires direct x 8 which is on the cd. However is doesnt seem to install properly. Installation is completed instantly as soon as i click next in the installation exe - too quicl for anything to install

and when i try to intall 9 it says no installation is necessary as i already have the latest version :-S

cant you try and run in compatibility mode.
set to windows xp service pack 2 640x800

If the program is not compatible, then you may try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.
    Use the following steps:
    1) Right click on the Program
    2) Click on Properties
    3) Click on Compatibility tab
    4) Select Run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows Vista or whatever operating system the program was running successfully.

Refer to the link here: Make older programs run in this version of Windows

taken from a quick google - so be careful of the patch

Most issues with Star Trek Armada 2 not running in Windows 7 x64 have been solved by a mod group that released an unofficial patch.

I can confirm this as working for me and I run Windows 7 x64 (the game didn't work before the patch, but works fine after the patch).

tried compatibilty mode and no joy. i think it may have something to do with the fleetops mod im running as other people are reporting the same bug on their forum:

    http://www.fleetops.net/forums/techn...201579#p201579

i will need to try a stock armada 2 install and see if i get the same issue....
