Default EGR valve on Mk5 Astra

I've been having issues with the EGR valve sticking on my Astra so last week I took it off, cleaned it then blanked it off so it wouldn't be an issue. Only trouble is, now the car is really sluggish under 2000 revs, to the point it almost stalls. Is this because of the EGR being blanked off or could it be something else? It's a 1.9 CDTI engine by the way.

    Thanks

It can mess with your ECU or air flow sensor doing this, there are ways around this of course

But sometimes its not as simple as blanking it from what I've read.

I know if I blank mine (using the cheapest method) 2.0 TDI. It throws up ECU errors and limp modes

You might need it written out of your ECU, I blanked my old cars EGR (Focus MK2 2.0 TDCI) and it took a little while but eventually it seemed to drive better than ever before. After blanking I sprayed EGR cleaner up the inlet manifold to clean it up a bit. I did however have a permanent EGR light that always returned after being cleared (I didn't have my ECU altered though). Some places would do this as part of a remap if you wanted some extra power/MPG too.

Rightly or wrongly I didn't like the idea of dirty air going back into my engine, I was more concerned with the health and performance than the economy though.

Or short the pin out in the plug with the proper resistor

EGR is only really there to lower emissions.

Problem is modern engines are often designed with EGR in mind - EGR stuck open, too much exhaust being fed back into inlet. EGR stuck open, and the ECU sees something must be wrong because MAF reading doesn't change when EGR opened/closed.

EGR plates are a dirty bodge, but on some cars can produce great results. On some cars you need a plate with correct size hole so some extra air can flow to be seen by the MAF. Some cars the only bodge available is to remap out from ECU and blank off.

Only way of saying anything without looking at the car - if the problem happened straight after blanking it, the the plate is the culprit. If not, then maybe not.

Sadly as cars are evolving into computers with 4 wheels, plugging a diagnostic computer in is the first thing to do for anything not obvious.
