First time I've seen it but the things I've seen women drivers and some men on the roads today are crazy.

How some people get a licence is beyond me these days.

Cobblers - like any age group there are some very decent pensioners driving as well as some morons - what I would certainly agree with is testing every 3 years from 65 to 80 years old and annually after that

Just before Christmas I exited a roundabout and entered my junction in the outside lane and this old fart came off his exit slip road into the inside land and then decided to pull out into the outside lane.

Well be hit me side on and when we pulled over he first said I hit him but a witness pulled over as well and said he hit me.

I asked the driver (OAP) did he see me and he said no and he was 70 plus in age.

So yes I agree that some older drivers drive very well but their are some that do need retesting that's for sure.

Should also retest drivers every 3 years from the age of 17 to 30 then as they are 6-8 times more likely to be involved in a RTA, would be better using facts/statistics rather than opinions as they seem to contradict each other.

    Hey,

I have often wondered how you can pass your test at 17 (well back in the day when I did) and that is it..
There was no 'theory' test back then, nor have I ever had to do one. I also find it strange that new rules/signs can be released just be mentioning it on the news without sending details to license holders.

Your physical license expires every 10 years and all you simply have to do is send a renewal form off and a new photo for the card, yet you are not required to retest.

I would be pro regular tests. However going back to the woman in the video, is it a requirement of obtaining your license that you fill your car up with petrol?

Don't have a problem with regular retest for any age group to be honest - but it is a well known fact that eyesight and reaction time deteriorate with age and that's why pensioners need more frequent testing (imho of course)

I do have a problem with it as with everything else it will just be used as a cash cow, I only see an assumption it would lead to a better standard of driving on the roads or reduction in accidents rather than evidence as in my opinion a lot of accidents are caused when people are doing something they know they should not be doing so not a lack of driving ability just stupidity.

Once you reach 70, you must renew every 3 years and your doctor or consultant says you are fit to drive so it is already covered, if there was a major issue with older drivers causing a disproportionate amount of accidents I could see the argument and would be more willing to back the argument but as it stands they are far from it so would be far more willing to back legislation that enforced stricter conditions on younger drivers who ARE statistically the biggest danger on the roads to other road users.

It's idiots who use whichever lane is moving quickest, rather than the correct lane for where they are going, that annoy me most.

What annoys me with utter contempt is those drivers that hog the middle and outside lanes, call the lanes fast lanes and not overtaking lanes and young wiper snappers who think they can drive once they past the test.

I've been driving for 32 years and learn everyday new tricks and see surprises that todays drivers take for granted.

    Laters

    PS,

Also those that never EVER use their indicators pisses me off big time.

Only slightly better than those who indicate and move lane without a pause. You should use them in good time, giving other road users plenty of time to react and adapt to your signal

    Thanks to koola2
