Default In Car Long Exposure shots.

My first attempt at doing this.

Tripod was braced in the car using one leg against the rear seat and the other two legs against the backs of the front seats. Aperture set to F/9.0, Aperture priority, ISO 320 so exposure times varied depending on ambient light. Focus locked and set to manual to avoid focus hunting. Shots were taken using my intervalometer. Set to take 60 or so shots with a 35 second delay in between (to allow for a potential 30 second shot if it happened).

This way, I could set the camera taking the shots, drive off and let the camera continue its work with no intervention from myself whilst driving. Also, the shots were taken at the legal speed limits.

    Things to note.

I need to fix the composition (Centralise better and lower the camera down so there's less of if none at all of the rear view mirror.
I also need to perhaps decide on a specific exposure time to avoid blooming of the dash / stereo lights etc. and also, that definitely needs to be shorter. Probably 15 seconds or less whilst driving under brighter lights as opposed to no lights with just main beam as it doesn't light up any of the interior of the car.

Anyway, here's the best of the bunch. Some better than others

This one is probably the best in regards to the exposure on the dash lights.

    Fantastic!

Amazing what you produce, I thought shots like this were only from the pro's with hi tech equipment costing thousands.

    Great shots
Why not try this software I use for my astrophotography,BackyardEOS,you can have a 30 day free trial here:[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

This software will allow you to set exposure times, different ISOs etc, although it would mean having a laptop in the car.

    Thanks to Oily

    Cheers all .

Will be having another go soon but will look to choose my locations. These were on a drive home from work so just my route home. Only downside to driving roads not motorway is vibration due to poor surfaces. I think with a short enough exposure in bright enough street lighting I should easily be able to get exposure times down to less than 5 seconds and if necessary, I can blend a well exposed interior of the car onto a well exposed exterior view.

Oily, thanks for the software link. That certainly looks interesting.

This sentence reminded me of a completely different scenario, but that would be for a completely different section of the forum!

You can have the flash go off at the end of the long exposure for the same effect?
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

I was contemplating 2nd curtain flash as well though would need to ensure that happened on a car free road.
