Default HP ProLiant Gen8 G1610T MicroServer - £149 (after cashback)

Ebuyer are doing the HP ProLiant Gen8 G1610T MicroServer for £184.98 then you can get cashback of £35 from HP making it £149 - just grabbed one to have a play with, plenty of upgrade options on it cpu etc - seems a pretty good deal for one of these.

Offer is HERE must be ordered and delivered before the 31st January to get the cashback from HP

    Thanks to prezzy

Mine arrived today, cracked an ssd in for os plus 4 3tb drives all up and running. Great bit of kit for the money quality for £149, just need to install more ram to get it to 16gb also thinking about whack1ng a better cpu in it

Are the cpu's socked on these now then? The older N36's etc were soldered directly to the board.

They are 1155 sockets I believe, you can put a Xeon CPU in there IIRC. Saw these deals last week and am very tempted although I have only just started populating my N54l so might hold off a little while.

This is seriously tempting. My old server (old PC) is on its last legs.

Only 2GB of RAM though and the price of ECC RAM is my only concern.

I made a cheeky Flubit request just to see if they lowered it any further but I doubt you can claim cashback on a Flubit purchase.

    Good luck with that!

Loving my Microserver best bit of kit I have bought in a while!

Just having a play around with Plex never really looked at it before and it rocks, shared to a few pc's and the server going strong.

I reckon I will be upgrading the cpu to a xeon 1220l some time soon . . .

Flubit offered another £11 off so just over £160 but I doubt you can claim cashback as the fulfilment company seems to be Flubit just drop shipping. I have had my past Flubit purchases sent from ebuyer.

£60 cashback for G1610t bought between 1-30th April. Annoying as I just bought a few last month for jobs! Makes it £120 which is an absolute bargain.

I know the answer to the first question is yes, but as a noob with this stuff I would like some help before I decide to jump in.

    * I gather this would be a fantastic replacement for my NAS box and in doing so I would never look back?
    * Can I add disks/memory as I go along
    * Without the iLO license is it still usable. (A guy at work pointed out that Tesco marketplace have these for £54! http://www.tesco.com/direct/hewlett-...s/329-1618.prd)
    * Would this replace what my MacMini does now (Sickbeard, VPN Server, SABNZBD, Plex etc..)
    * To get me up and running, how much would I be looking at for a basic set up (including discount).

    Thanks
