website design idea

I want to get peoples thoughts and ideas on this but ive had an idea and it will soon be live on the net

im starting a business doing website designing with a difference

it will be on contract instead of per job, what I mean by this is people will pay one yearly FEE of say £1k and for that they will get any kind of website they want, and any amount of websites designed within that 12 months period. so if people wanted 500 websites built, they would be able to have this with our service. and they do not have to pay any more.

what do you think, is it a good idea and viable.

I'm guessing these will follow a number of standard templates. Otherwise couldn't the workload become to great if you get a flood of requests. Also, why couldn't I set up a website design company but then simply act as a middle man and get you to do all the work?

I don't know how much a web site is to buy and host but isn't £1k a little on the high side?
surely most people will only want one website and won't be too keen on paying that much Per year.

tier 1

up to 4 sites etc

tier 3
up to 10 sites etc

it depends on what people want, @larrylakes no they will all be freshly designed in photoshop and dreamweaver
and yes I would be happy to work with others

@teajay, sites can be expensive m8 and you can pay upwards of £1k per site that why I wanted to offer such a site.
it will include database driven sites, all social sites, joomla, etc anything is possible

Who would own the overall site data you as the developer or the customer?

In which case then I don't see why u can't make a lot of money from it as long as you get the right traffic and promotion.
It's a tough market to make a lot of money in though isn't it?

@teajay yes its very tough, im hoping to try and make something over the long term, there is no easy buck in this that's for sure. but ive got a business plan and I hope to follow through

Yes especially as a lot of Indian companies now do this as well. I can see one issue, you could get massively overloaded, I could request a site a day.

yes you could m8 but that would not be an issue. and we all know what working with the Indians can be like, and im not being racist before anyone says so, im on about it sometimes being a nightmare in communication and resulting work plus zero relationship.. this would be uk based with only uk workers so there would be no mis-understanding at all. the way I would set it up would ensure a site a day is perfectly feasible.

What about ecommerce sites? Will you be offering those and if so based on what cart and will it have all of the integration for C.Card processing etc?

personally think there are way too many variables for £1k a year you would lose out big style.

@hoponbaby yes but just opencart to start with, it includes installation of opencart, customisation, setting up a few products and yes setting up integrated cc payments or more better paypal

@consoles - im going to give it a go, I have a business plan and I hope it can work. I will not make a lot out of it but it should keep me busy

Web design is a fickle world, some companies do just want a cheap and nasty site so will not be willing to touch you at £1,000 where as others want the bollocks, what if someone like Sainsburys knocked on your door wanting a redesign of the website for £1,000 when the last one cost over £1m?

If I knew you were doing this I would do as Larry said I would go out and find you customers charge them £500 per site knowing I don't have to pay you a penny for the work as after 2 sites sold everything else is profit for me, if I get another 100 sites that year then I make £50k and you do all the work for nothing.

Agree with TJ further up about set packages.

If I asked for ten websites and paid £1500 a year, once they we're built I'd be wondering where my value for money comes from?

@akimba, ive not revealed everything pal ;.)

@bigbrand I am working on it as I speak m8, looking into everything, value for money comes in no more fees for future edits but again its all in the planning stage.

When you say no edits they could just request a whole new website from scratch with the changes. I think you'd get people taking the piss with this - it's either going to be too pricey for someone who wants one or two (especially if no changes) or you're going to get the cowboy entrepreneurs who want one a week with different ideas.

I'd just stick to the standard consultancy/building way where you discuss their needs, best way to do it and farm it out to some Eastern Europeans (who are much better than the Indians).
