Default Windows cannot currently check for updates

    yo all,

had to rebuild my work pc yesterday and noticed that my laptop(win 7 pro) didn't seem to have run any updates recently so went to run updates and get the following error

"Windows cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."

now i have tried the following and still getting no joy !!

ran virus and malware scan (eset, malwarebytes) nothing found

ran microsoft fixit program to fix updates

checked the services required were running

checked MS defender was up to date as read that sometimes caused an issue

only other thing to mention is this laptop (win 7 pro) was connected to my server (ws2012e) but server has been off a while as need to sort it out

    SO ANY IDEAS ?

I've had this once or twice and did what you posted in the post above.

    Sorted it fine.

Really glad you've posted this mate. I put my old desktop on last night for the first time since June and had the same problem. Nice one

    Fairly common issue on Win7 / 2008R2.

Has annoyed me a few times.
