Default Sony Vaio No Battery Detected problem

hi, I have installed Win & Ultimate on a Sony Vaio VGN-NR38E, everything seems to be fine apart from the laptop does not recognise the battery.
I've googled it and tried the disable ISB utility (which I installed hoping it would somehow remedy itself) I've tried:

    1. Unplug AC adapter. Shutdown
    2. Remove battery, Connect AC Adapter
    3. Start windows7. Remove Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery,
    4. Shutdown, Remove AC Adapter, Install battery, Reattach AC Adapter.
    5. Power up

no luck, my next plan is to load a LIVE linux cd to see if the battery if found then..but does anyone have any experience of this problem?
    many thanks

Drin the battery for a bit. Then see if the battery LED is normal when charging.

Any info on battery in BIOS?

    Updated firmware to latest?

If you update the firmware and BIOS says there's no battery then the battery is probably screwed, but there is a chance it could be the laptop itself.

    Thanks to Over Carl

Not a fan of Sonys but have you tried installing all the drivers from the Sony product page rather than using a tool like driver updater? Have you also installed any utilities that Sony list? I wonder if a particular driver/utility is required.

when you say doesn't recognise it do you mean no battery appears in device manager? And the laptop powers off when ac is removed?

    Thanks to evilsatan

had a quick look in the BIOS this morning and there is hardly any info at all in it, nevermind the battery! seems all locked down or somethng.
Trying to find a firmware/BIOS update later.
Sony support doesn't seem to offer much in the way of downloads for this machine(VGN-NR38E) will have another dig around tonight.
    cheers

yes no battery recognised, battery appears in device manager as Microsoft Composite battery and yes unlug AC and it switches off.. no battery charge light when off..

thinking I may need a SONY OEM Win 7 install? or battery knackered

It won't be software related bud. All you can do is try a new battery

    Thanks to plug1

Could easily be software if it was working before and then not after the install - dry solder joint? Bug in battery controller which has been updated? Could be one of a load of things im afraid. Unless you want to take it apart and get a voltmeter out?

    Thanks to blacksheep
