Default Sony Vaio - Not working in Normal Mode (Vista)

    Visat machine (Home P)
    Sony Vaio
    Ram 4gb
    32 Bit OS

Recently this has become slow and then, if I log in, on normal mode, it freezes, very quickly. I have always been uptodate with AV and run SpyBot and CCleaner on a regualre basis.

If I start in safe mode (any) I am fine, PC rins fine, no freezing no issue.

    Any ideas?
What I was going to do is clear the system.
Take apart and clean of dust/debirs
Do a fresh install of OS

Also run HD check, no bad errors.

Any ideas, or do i call it a day. Not sure, how old machine is, but I do recall, I was one of the first wave who got the free upgrade to Win7 (but screwed that up dont ask), win 7 was not released at that time. That all I can recall.

Currently running in SM with eEtworking to get on this

    Cheers.....Q

If you don't need to run certain windows programs why don't you have a go with Linux on a USB stick ?

Well, it is old. But when I did buy, it was top of range (damn near), I cant afford that now. I know Vista is hated, I lost my win7, by the time I got aroudn to trying again, MS nor Sony would send another. I use it for work related things, so when doing such, want to be legit to be honest.

I do want to toy with Linux, but time, programs and more importantly, any down time are ill afforded right now.

    Thanks Both,

    EDIT
Hang on though. Why working in Safemode and not normal?

Boot to safe mode, run msconfig, check diagnostic startup, reboot to normal mode. If it works then some of your installed software is the problem. You can then run msconfig again, switch to selective startup, go to the startup tab, disable all non-microsoft items, then reboot. If it's ok do the same but this time enable some apps, reboot, keep doing this until you isolate the problematic one.

If formatting isn't too much of a problem then download the clean win 7 isos that are stickied in the win 7 forum and install that instead. You don't want to use Sony images or vista.

    Thanks to evilsatan

So far so good. Opera internet explorer works fine, but even since, with the msconfig, if i start firefox or Vuze I get lock down. Something else that is causing lock down is Java when I hit continue.

Formatting is not an issue, there are some things I need to sort, but I do try and work of the opinion, if things are on my everyday HD, then they are not essential.

Cut losses man Vista is a bag of spanners after windows updates are applied runs like me on a Friday night after a few beers 3 forward 2 back

you will spend more time patching it up rather than fixing it

So back up ur stuff and installing a fresh copy of windows 7 will do it a world of wonders (don't try the upgrade it will fail)

No, those are all new to me, I used to use something that now escapes me, icon was like a bomb

Looking at those now as well.

Not had any kind of issue for so long now, well out of the game on this.
