Default Apple Watch prices and apps revealed

Apple's smartwatch collection will range in price from $349 to $17,000 (£299 to £13,500 in the UK) depending on the metals they are made from and the straps they are bought with.
The larger 42mm (1.7in) models of the Watch will cost about $50 more than than the 38mm (1.5in) versions in the lower-priced ranges.
Apple also revealed that the devices are due to go on sale on 24 April.
Rivals' smartwatches have only seen limited sales to date.
A press event held in San Francisco held few surprised about the wearable beyond the fact that the mid-range stainless steel edition would start at $549 and go up to $1,099 in the US, and from £479 to £949 in the UK including VAT.

$10k for an apple digital watch or get a Swiss made watch like a Breitling Bentley, decisions decisions...

If the app developers create enough added value then I wouldn't rule me out from buying a cheaper one in the future but the apps would have to be good. Charging so regularly would be a pain.

I won't my missus won't pay that for a watch lol.

i have had a gshock for the last couple of years I bought in the us which connects with my iPhone and does pretty much the same thing and I paid £120 and that was 2-3 years ago now too.

total waste of money I never connect it to my phone (Bluetooth) as my phone tells me when I have a call or text or email etc.
great so it tells me someone has tweeted me and a short description but that's what the screen is for.

dont get me wrong these things will become the norm within 5 years but for now I use mine to tell the time.

    38 Flipping models !! What's that about ?

I think the main problem with smart watches is what do you really gain by getting notifications on a watch when your phone is usually in pocket or on desk anyway ?

They're easy to glance at and react or dismiss, especially in a meeting or even driving. I'd be lost without mine at work and I don't look as much of a tit as those pulling their phone out every two minutes to see if they've missed a text.
They are what they are; if you would find a use for one, then they're the bollocks. If you'd rather use (or are lucky enough to be able to use) your phone only, then why would you buy one. I bought a smart watch because I kept missing calls from school. Now regardless of what noise environment I'm in or if I can't feel the phone vibration, the watch vibrates and I get the notification. If you don't need all that, you wouldn't buy one. It's hardly the Quiz Of The Week..

I don't think there is anything wrong with a smart-watch as such, but currently they look so damn thick and 'clunky'.

Yes, they are crammed with amazing tech but really I'll only be interested once they start to slim down quite a bit more.

Default Apple Watch prices and apps revealed

I'll move to a colour smart watch when they have at least the battery life of a decent automatic not a qtr/third of it also when the shelf life of a year doesn't equal £100 a month for a half decent looking model

Eg 42mm on shark mesh is £900 !

They're not really smart watches though are they. They require the phone to function, so they're a phone add-on.

In fact they're no better than a dreamcast vmu.

They are nice IMHO. I use a vivosmart for notifications on my wrist at the moment and I love it. Haven't had the ringer turned on on my phone for months.

They announced a strava app today for the apple watch which will show live data including live segments which as a cyclist is something I would love love love. This shows that just like the iPhone/iPad it's the apps that will make it and lack of apps that would break it.

A touch on the expensive side for me but only just if I'm honest. I would have liked to see them hit the £250 price point but the fact is you can't get another watch with notifications, multi sport capability and built in heart rate for that anyway!

I'm looking at buying a Garmin vivoactive this month when it's released and that needs an external hrm and is £200. It has an app store of sorts but it's certain not to be as well supported as Apple's

Price of a laptop for a non premium (proper Swiss made chronograph type) watch?!? Wtf - you can get a MacBook pro for less.

Gotta hand it to Apple, they missed the boat with the smart watch, but they take whats already out there, double the price, stick an apple logo on it and it sells better than everything out there.

Surely there must be some upgrade system for people daft enough to drop 17k on one, a 17k Rolex or whatever will always be a Rolex in 25 years, ain't no one interested in a 5 year old i-device.

I'm with zoots I can't live without my LG G Watch R that the wife bought me for xmas.

I have wanted one for a while but wanted one that actually looked like a watch.

And like zoots said not pulling your phone out in a meeting and just glancing at your wrist is great.

I was gonna punt for one of these but sadly they are after 859 for the only one I would wear. Numb cunts. Thing that bothers me is the battery. How long will it last before replacement is necessary? And then how much to do. The strap has a replacement cost of over 500 nicker. Shame I was really looking forward to this and as Malty says the strava app was a serious pull.

After a night of mulling it over I'm going back to plan a and buy a vivoactive. Maybe when the dust settles I will get one (the sport is what I'd go for) but not until they are out in the wild.
