ok last night my pc at home done a set of updates on 8.1
reboot and black screen with cursor
wtf, anyway manage to ctrl+alt+delete and get to task manager, hold down shift while on task selection, move down to power button on bottom right and restart into recovery/troubleshooting all done keeping shift pushed down.
selected advanced, system restore & all back up and running.
got to work today & 4 new Systems had done exactly the same. systems only 24 hours old.

Are they new installs? Could be a graphic driver conflict, you could have installed some drivers and windows update installed some others too.

after checking and removing graphics drivers, still no joy, came in today to find another 3 machines hit with it after m/s updates, 2 of them are laptops
cant pin point what update has done this. all are on 8.1, some on pro and one on 32bit.
    head scratcher..

Very odd that you had the same problem again, thought they would pull the update. Is the hardware the same?

Update for windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3000850) installed on 18/12/2014

Update for windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3003667) installed on 29/11/2014

I cannot find nor will it show up as needing installing the windows defender update on any pc lol

I am now worried as my last one was 1.175.963.0..

maybe malwarebytes and bitdefender are blocking it.

odd, does it seem to effect intel or amd systems.

onboard or external gfx card systems, NVidia or amd.

have you spotted a pattern yet.
