French president: Passenger jet crashes in French Alps, likely no survivors

PARIS — French President Francois Hollande says no survivors are likely in the Alpine crash of a passenger jet carrying 148 people.
The Germanwings passenger jet crashed Tuesday in the French Alps region as it traveled from Barcelona to Dusseldorf, French officials.
Eric Ciotti, the head of the regional council, said search-and-rescue teams were headed to the crash site at Meolans-Revels.
The French newspaper La Provence, citing aviation officials, said the Airbus plane carried at least 142 passengers, two pilots and four flight attendants

Looks like Pilot suicide... fuck me this is very close to home. I fly Germanwings, as well as the other low cost carriers several times a month for work and pleasure. Its become so routine like taking a bus that I no longer even think about the safety aspects, just 'kiss-kiss' the wife and kids and tell them I'll see them the next day.

His family were enroute to the crash site when the information was revealed. I feel so desperately sorry for them, one minute they are just another grieving family of one of the victims, and now he is the evil monster that single-handedly took all those lives.

The pilot was German, someone probably moved his pencil by accident and he had a nervous breakdown.

If today's reports are true about the pilot being locked out of the cabin it just proves what many experts said after 9/11 and something I absolutely agree with - there has to be a rapid system for the crew to gain entry to the cockpit in the event of an emergency or one of them being locked out like this - there was always a better option than giving the pilots 100% control of the cockpit door during flights

The problem with that is that if a terrorist were to put a gun to the trolley dolly's head, she would tap in the code.
The best and most secure system would be a panic button in the cabin which the cabin crew could press in case they believed the cockpit had been compromised, this would open a link with Airbus HQ in France who could then immediately monitor and then intervene if necessary. Modern airliners can fly and take off completely autonomously or under radio control, both options would eliminate the pilot if HQ believed they had a bad pilot situation.

The code can be over-ridded by the person in the inside thecockpit to stop a trolley dolly unlocking it but there is also a way round this for extreme emergencies but this is very hush hush (prob type in 5 zero's overrides all codes :-)

If got HQ to fly it in then the terrorist would just cut comms to HQ?

Best option would be put a shitter in the cockpit stop the captain needing to leave it ;-)

Turns out he was mentally ill prob depression and was actually signed off work by the doc for the day he crashed the plane, they found a docs note signing him off ripped up in his flat :-0
