    Default De-Anodizing Aluminium Rc parts

so with my baja still in the box i dug out a few parts that i want to stripped and polished didn't like the orange bits !!!!!
i used caustic soda in tepid water, gloves and a bucket of hot soapy water to clean them after they were dipped.
So i put them on string and made the caustic soda very strong dropped them into the solution and with in 10-20 seconds the colour was removed then put them straight into the soapy water to stop the effects of the caustic soda. hung them to dry and got my demel out out and used mother billet to polish them. took a bit of time but im happy with the results

Not sure if it's necessary but you might want to neutralise after the caustic soda, the water probably does the job but if the parts are quite thin better safe than sorry.

Caustic soda is a strong alkali and very corrosive to aluminium. Soap is also an alkali so it wont neutralise it, although washing with soapy water will dilute it and a good rinse afterwards will wash most of it away. To neutralise caustic soda you need an acid. A weak vinegar solution is usually the easiest and cheapest. In this case it wont matter because the polishing has likely removed any trace of caustic soda from the surface. Left without polishing the caustic traces in the surface of the aluminium could have caused some damage even after washing and rinsing. (">
