Help with sourcing road bike parts

Hi just picked up a triban 500 road bike very cheap.It has a missing seat post,rear derailleur missing,cables to the front and rear gears missing and the headset where the bars go on has snapped.Only paid 20 quid so looking to get it up and running as cheaply as possible.If I enjoy road biking I will invest in something better.Can anybody point me in the right direction?

right from the pic you have supplied I can give you a few pointers.

the headset loos like its missing just the spacers and the star fangle, most of these were 1 1/8th (25.4)
add spacers until the fork tube is about 6mm below the h/bar stem and add the star fangle, tighten the
top allen bolt until no play is found and then tighten the side pinch bolts.

a close up picky of this would help us further.

the rear mech is not so difficult either as they are all much of the same, again looking at the pic I think I can
see the hanger for it is missing so you will need the correct hanger first (carefull there are loads of these and you will need the exact one)
fit the hanger and then put the rear mech onto it but do not tighten it like a gorilla as they have a stress point and are made to snap if anything goes wrong to save the frame.

don't thread the chain through it to start with, fit it and stand at the back of the bike so you can push it with your thumb and align the top and bottom stops.

seat posts come an many lengths and sizes and you will be better of taking it to a shop if you cannot find any info on size.

cables can be had in kits and this is the easiest way to go, a new kit will have all you need.

I see the star fangle is still in the forks so you just need to add the spacers and the star fangle top, the bar stems are much of the same and its your choice on length and angle to suit you.

yes you are missing the mech hanger and when ordering or purchasing don't forget to ask for the captive nut and bolt that holds it on.

got it all fixed up at the weekend and really enjoyed it did 25 miles on monday :-)

Yeah she works for virgin Atlantic and i think Evans is the only company they use

Check with Evans if you can get sale bikes on the scheme cod a lot of shops won't do them or will charge you the full price. Seems everything in your price range is a sale bike which is great cos you get more for your buck but check the score with them first.

depends on the gears you want really.

the one I linked is a 24 gear setup for touring and the one you have picked is a 16 gear road/racing set up.

the bianchi has the 2300 gearing and the cannondasle has the newer Claris (it is also known as the 2400 groupset)

not a lot separating these 2 tbh and as a casual rider pick the one you like, hill climbing though I would go for the bianchi unless you are planning on getting super fit, if you like in an area with mild or short climbs then the cannondale.

if you are doing all this for a little fun and fitness don't let the specs draw you in or you will pay for something that you you don't need.

53 or 54cm should be about right for your height but you're safer trying it first. Different manufacturers come up bigger or smaller so that's why it is best trying before buying. Also, if you're planning to put some hours in on the bike, you want to make sure it suits your riding style. You can tweak it afterwards by adjusting you saddle position(up, down, forward, backwards) and handle bar height with the spacers. After that you can buy a new stem to adjust the reach.
