Microsoft Developing ROM That Installs Windows 10 On Android?
Brace for an outlandish rumor, folks. While the world was expecting Android apps on Windows, Microsoft wants to see Windows 10 on Android phones instead.
If this pans out, it could be one of the more ambitious undertakings from Redmond.
As reported here, Microsoft have started work on a new software solution, in the form of a ROM that would allow users to install Windows 10 on their Android smartphones. Essentially offering the same experience as if they bought a Windows powered handset.
This custom ROM is expected to be similar to functionality to Cyanogen, in that it replaces Android completely, opening up the possibility of a dual boot.
A device would then be powered by Windows 10 for Phones completely, and in the process providing access to Microsoft products and services just like on a Lumia smartphone — everything from OneDrive and Skype to Outlook and Office.
Word is that the software titan has turned to China to test out this new plan.
It may not exactly be a friendly market for Microsoft, but vendors in China have shown an interest in developing and promoting Windows based tablets.
Obviously, offering a native Windows experience in one thing, but in order to sway users to drop Android and switch to Windows 10, Redmond will have to cook up a really streamlined and convincing usage experience.
Rumors for now, of course, but we may well hear some official statements from Microsoft on this in the coming weeks and months.
