Help Need to view or convert CCTV footage saved in .SSF file format

Friend has asked me to help with some CCTV footage she needs to view. The files from the CCTV system are saved in .SSF format.

Tried playing in VLC player and also changing the file extension to .avi and .mp4 but not having any luck and don't have a great deal of time to play with it so any pointers in the right direction will be appreciated.

    Some background info:
Her stepson who drives one of her taxis damaged two cars late one night and didn't stop. Police are saying, according to CCTV footage from a nearby shop, that his sons girlfriend was driving and his son was in the passenger seat, but the son denies it. She has obtained the video files from the shopkeeper and wants to show them to her husband to prove that his son had let his girlfriend drive even though she was uninsured. The police officer dealing with the case is on holiday until next week and the boy's father who suffers with heart problems is getting very anxious and frustrated not knowing what to believe or what to tell the insurance company. Thanks for that. Recognises the files, however when trying to play the files it has "encountered an error and needs to close". Tried it on win8 and XP with same result. Worth a try anyway and didn't need to be installed. (">

Thanks, but same software as posted by neilb above which doesn't work in this case. She may be better off getting the shop to play it on the original system and capture the video using her phone. The shop gave her the video file so I don't see why they would refuse. (">

Just tried GSpot to see if it recognised the codec used but it comes back as 'unrecognised'. I'm starting to think the SSF file format is a backup file and nothing is going to play it directly. If that is the case then the shop owner should have exported the file rather than use the backup feature. (">

No worries got it now and I've got the video on the screen. Keeps stuttering but it seems you've found what I need. Got to pop out for a bit but will have a further play later and let you know how I got on. Cheers m8. (">

Worked a treat. Can clearly see his son getting out the passenger side and his son's girlfriend moving over from the drivers seat to the passenger seat. Don't go out much these days but you've earned me a few free taxi rides if I go up town and its raining. (">
