    Default Media Center Alternative

With MS announcing they are dropping support for Media Center, I thought it would be a good time to try out alternatives. I only use it for live TV via a DVB-T2 USB stick. I like how easy it is to set up and the simple interface.

Is there anything else out there that is as easy to setup and as easy to use? The software that came with the USB stick is useless.

Thanks but I don't think that'll suit me. I don't really want to get into messing with plugins and stuff. I'd rather use something that just installs and works. I did once mess with trying to get live TV and a epg working in xbmc and it was just too much hassle.

I would have suggested KODI or Plex, but if you want simplicity, checkout Media Portal.

Plex should be less hassle for you mate, install it and point it at your media folders, that should be it

Kodi does, its under the PVR settings I think, had mine linked to the vu duo, but found the interface too slow.

If def does, when I used it, was with a dvb-s and a dvb-t card in the same PC so was mostly okay

There was another app as well my mate used and was seamless, again with TV cards in the PC.

KODI's new PVR Functionality is new since the latest releases. Been natively supporting about a year I think.

    Has supported since 2013:

Personally I use MythTV for backend, and then mix of MythTv and Kodi as front ends. But also use IPTVSimple under Kodi.

Well, in my opinion, it turns out that there is nothing that even comes close to WMC for live TV. I tried NextPVR, Kodi, MediaPortal and a few others I can't even remember the name of now. All were very inferior for this purpose. I even tried TVCenter which came with my TV card but you can't even reorder the channels into the correct order.

Such a shame that MS are dropping support for WMC as I want to upgrade to Win10.

    Thanks to Gunnzie

It's a real shame as I really like Win 10 and want DirectX 12 so would have no choice to upgrade. I'm the same, I use WMC almost daily and there is just nothing that comes close for me. I guess my only option is to sell my DVB-T2 stick and buy a standalone Freeview box. It's not an ideal solution for me but would be better than anything on Windows 10.

I'm even considering selling my graphics card too, giving up on PC gaming and getting a XBox One as you can get a TV tuner box for it.
