    Tech Fibre dilema continues

    Hi
Ok I get fttc but I am one mile from cabinet and the cabling from cabinet to my house i think is made from recyled lada's. BT told me I could have fttc but not Infinity as too far away and download would be 14 meg -19 meg and upload about 1.3meg ($hit I know) so I went ahead as I have plex and wanted to give back. they fitted the fttc and actual speeds were 10meg and 0.8 and I went mental.
I went on about miss selling blah blah blah and took it to exec office - they tried to help and got it up to 12meg/1meg but pings about 50ms, anyway they agreed that this was still shy of "minimum advertised" and offered me a free get out of contract as they said that line was "impacted" and nothing further could be done.
I called other internet company who said - if line is "impacted" then simple sollution would be buy new line (which they had on special offer for £25) and then put a cease on old line, seemed to make sense at time. BT rucked up three times and said they had no spare lines to route and gave up twice, third visit they did a "divert" from some other pole up the road to mine and fitted that, however this line has a 5v "battery" on both cables, they say this is below the threshold of where they have to do anything about it but means my "new line" is even worse than the old, I get 9.5meg/0.9meg so I dont want to give up my old line as that is the best one (but has a get out clause on it till end of this month). the new one I am stuck to for 18months. To top it all on new line I was given the telephone number of the local school so until that was resolved I had loads of messages that little bobby wasnt coming to school today as he had the skitters.
Anyway, do I spend £230 on a load balancing duel wan router such as the Draytek 2860n plus, and keep paying two fibre connections - a lot of expense but will it be good?
or can somebody give me any other ideas.
    Many thanks
    LS

If you are stuck with two lines for now then a load balancer would be the best use of it, you will need either a VDSL modem or you could use your homehub 5 and connect WAN2 by ethernet as the Draytek only has a single VDSL modem integrated.

It will mean two separate devices can get 10mb each rather than a single device having 20mb as bonding equipment is pretty complex and I believe requires something at both ends so you have to buy bonded as a service at a high premium from a third party.

Sucks that you can't get the proper speeds though, I guess it's a lot of effort for them to run a completely new line but have you asked if they would do it at extra cost? Do you know of any neighbours have a better speed?

    Thanks to evilsatan

    Hi m8
Thanks for the reply, the Draytek 2860n plus has one VDSL modem built in and when I got a new line they dropped off an openreach modem for the other company, they can ram the home hub fight up their farter. I can have just one line without financial penalty, but that would mean losing the better one of the two kack lines.
just trying to end the none stop arguement with my son, and the none stop bellowing of "who the hell is downloading?" unfortunatly my grown up and cannot get rid of son and daughter think these things are free and still have the hard neck to totally rinse them and complain when they dont work.
    many thanks

With the draytek set up multiple SSIDs and then use the bandwidth management features to limit their speeds to ensure you always have good speeds you can also block sites they can visit, keyword filtering, file types they can download, protocols such as torrents etc.

Ask BT to charge for only 1 line and do the load balancing?

One good thing is most ISP will over exaggerate your likely speeds whereas BT's estimate is usually conservative and you actually get often a decent bit more than you expected. Not always the case.

Why can't you get the new line cancelled? If the provider suggested it as a resolution to the existing "impacted" line and it's actually worse then it's not fit for purpose/missold due to misrepresentation.
