Default Your home town is famous because...

I'm pretty certain there was a similar thread on here but i was unable to find it...

I did a google search on my home town and was taken to the wikipedia page for the place, and wow what a fucked up town i live in.

I think more serial killers have lived in this town than anywhere else on the planet, plus a pervert, some footballers, musicians, comedians and the richest you tuber in the world, during the Shipman trial the sun newspaper called it 'the town of the dead' well it opened my eyes.

    Hyde

So what is your town famous/infamous for?

Forgot to add the local football team holds the record for the worst defeat ever in the FA cup, in 1887 they were beaten 26-0 by Preston north end lol, and Dale Cregan who shot and killed two police women lived here too, another who's classed as a serial killer.

    Leeds= Peados aka Jimmy

    enough said

I actually was brought up in Gipton, this is a suburb of Leeds

Gipton is a suburb of East Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, between the A58 to the north and the A64 to the south.
It is joined with Harehills (adjacent to the west) as a City Council Ward. Note that
Gipton Wood is an area north of the A58 in the Roundhay Ward.

    History
The 1817 village was somewhat west of the location now called Gipton, featuring the Gipton Spa or bathhouse in what is now Gledhow Valley Woods.
    Gipton derives from Old English:
the first element is a personal name: in this case, it is Gippa (same as in Ipswich, although almost certainly not the same man)
and tun "village, settlement, farm" (here, it refers to a village). The town's name was recorded as Cepetun, suggesting village with a market,
suggesting a trading-town, or residence of the traders, as with Market Weighton. The first element of the name in the Domesday Book record wrongly
suggests Old English ceap "market, trading-place", but it was a corruption of the personal name, Gippa. However, a record from 1018 as
Gipentune[citation needed] proves that the first element is a personal name. The name Coldcotes which prefixes many of the areas street
    names comes from 'cold cottages'.

    People
•Former Elmet (Wetherby, Garforth, Rothwell) MP, Colin Burgon is from Gipton.
•Author Jack Sheffield (born 1945, writer of humorous books such as "Teacher, Teacher") was born in Gipton.

Used to be quite popular with residents of Glasgow back in the day coming down for their summer holidays but now its just full of junkies and arseholes. Place is like a black hole, once you get stuck in it, there is no escaping....

i am not from Hartlepool But moved here in 1972 i was 4 years old(Im A Boro Man)
But i call Hartlepool My Home & We Hung A Monkey.

    The Monkey Hanging Story

The monkey-hanging legend is the most famous story connected with Hartlepool.
During the Napoleonic Wars a French ship was wrecked off the Hartlepool coast.

During the Napoleonic Wars there was a fear of a French invasion of
Britain and much public concern about the possibility of French
    infiltrators and spies.

The fishermen of Hartlepool fearing an invasion kept a close watch
on the French vessel as it struggled against the storm but when the
vessel was severely battered and sunk they turned their attention
to the wreckage washed ashore. Among the wreckage lay one wet and
sorrowful looking survivor, the ship’s pet monkey dressed to amuse
    in a military style uniform.

The fishermen apparently questioned the monkey and held a
beach-based trial. Unfamiliar with what a Frenchman looked
like they came to the conclusion that this monkey was a
French spy and should be sentenced to death. The unfortunate
creature was to die by hanging, with the mast of a fishing boat (a coble)
    providing a convenient gallows.

I live in Lytham St Annes and this is about the most interesting bit -

Notable musicians, actors and entertainmeners who were born or live(d) in Lytham-St-Annes include comedians Les Dawson and Roy Walker, comedienne and broadcaster Jenny Eclair, actors Stephen Tompkinson, Jonas Armstrong, Dean Lennox Kelly and Craig Kelly, composer Peter Dickinson, guitarist Mario Parga, drummer with Alien Sex Fiend and UFX/Uncle Fester Ratfink (Andrew Wilson), variety hall entertainer Betty Jumel, singer-songwriter Marli Harwood and Gigwise.com founder Andy Day.

See Roy Walker every now and again and he never fails to be a cunt. Missing off here is Bobby Ball who lives near the centre.

I currently live in Hemel Hempstead, much of which is 50's & 60's developments to house Londoners after the war.
Famous people who live in the nice parts are Theo Walcott, Goldie, sheryl and bianca Gascoigne.
Only two other famous things: we have a road junction called the magic roundabout -which is cool and freaks visotors out and finally the Buncefield fire / explosion happened here but unfortunately it didn't destroy all of the above!
