Brighthouse cable disables wifi if you don't pay

Anyone find a way around this? I have the Arris DG1670A cable modem. If you turn it on without connecting to coax wifi works fine (no internet connection obviously, but it still turns on). Soon as you plug in the coax it must download a profile of some kind and the wifi gets disabled. You can still get to the config page and check the box to re-enable wifi, but the change doesn't save. How are they doing this and how can I block their penny pinching asses?

I have a very similar issue with a Superhub ( a very common cable modem here in the UK as provided by Virgin Media).

I have found from time to time, we appear to loose our internet connection. I have performed extensive diagnosis of the issue and eventually came to a conclusion.

If I want internet that works I need to pay the bill.

Ned, I suggest you take your modem, find the nearest seal and ask it to club you repeatedly with it. Just sayin'

Why would you plug the coax in if you don't have any benefit (I.e. Internet) from it?
