    Default Jury Service

    Hi,
My dad's been called up on jury service.

Without his help in our daily routine with school drops, child care collects etc isn't possible.

Can he get out of it or do my wife and I have to waste holiday to cover for the fortnight?

He's a pensioner so technically isn't employed but that doesn't mean he isn't busy!!

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks for reading

You got very, very little chance of getting out of it.

My wife recently got called up and tried everything she could to get out of it. (Including basically telling them she is insane, I kid you not (she prolly is))
They don't even consider most medical or religious grounds (we know cos she tried that too) and the penalties if you fuck em about include prison.

    Thanks to piggzy

Yup. Although if he explains circumstances I know they will cover certain expenses e.g. Childcare. Might be better going down that route.

We did em for every penny we could.

Believe me their it is very unlikely he can get out of it, if you do find a reason usually they just reschedule your service rather than cancel it, I've done it twice now and its taken very seriously one of our jurors got a hefty fine and found in contempt for repeatedly returning late from lunch !!

A supervisor at my work went in on day 1 said to the organising officer.
She would rather be at work and so would her boss could she be excused from service.

She was in work 30 minutes later.
Sometimes it just helps to tell it like it is.

    Thanks

only way i think is if he gets a doctor to say he cant do it due to ill health, even then his chance of him getting a pass is slim.
i did it last year, was told i would be there 2 weeks, turned out i was only there 3 days, i did enjoy it.

I got a letter calling me up for duty before my 16th birthday. I was shitting myself not wanting to do it. I spent the best part of the morning and wasn't one of the 'chosen' ones! I'd look forward to doing it now just to have a change from work. But my advice is to inform them and even if it comes to the day it might only be a morning of inconvience for you. Maybe your dad might secretly look forward to it. We seem to rely on others for childcare with both parents needing to work these days. Sign of the times eh!

    Thanks to dainese
