10 Home for my new PC, but old PC will get 10 Pro !!!

So my new all singing all dancing PC (well, pretty decent spec) came with Windows 8.1 (Home I assume) as the OS.

So my free upgrade will be to 10 Home edition.



But my old PC now upstairs for my daughter to use for crud like You Tube and such, has Windows 7 Professional edition installed, which will get the 10 Pro upgrade.


That's a bit annoying, don't you think? And I assume, there is no way around getting the pro version to install downstairs and the home version upstairs in a swapsie...

You can't do a swapsie. But I have read in various forums (true or not I don't know) that a fair few people with hookey versions of win 8.1 that used the spoofed online activation thingy are getting notifications of free upgrade to 10.

I have a 'special' version of 8.1 Pro but have not had notification update yet, but I think the roll out is slow.

Either way Win 10 will be all over the internet next week in all it's glorious versions!

Any PC you have, put a hooky version of Windows 7 Ultimate on it and enjoy your free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

Microsoft have out done themselves with this free gift and its obviously a plan to get rid of all hooky versions. I imagine a huge update will come after release and will be chargeable.

Only problem is on my hooky copy's I've never had any offer of update yet to windows 10 even though I'm running all updates apart from KB890830 and KB971033

Make sure you activate with CODYQX4's KMS VL activator. Then install all the updates.

Alternatively, install Windows 8.1 Pro VL and do the same.

Aka mstoolkit2.5.3 ? Yeah using that bud but read your not to install those two updates ?

So long as you install a VL (Volume Licence) version, it tricks it into believing its genuine using AutoKMS (internal Key Management Service). All updates can then be installed and upgrade offer should come in. Mine did.

Wouldn't worry too much yet as at work we have 8 pc's running genuine windows 7 pro and not one has been offered to reserve the upgrade even tho the relevant KB update regarding the upgrade is installed on all of them..

I have a legit copy of Win7 Pro installed here on this PC - not heard a thing yet myself.

I reinstalled Windows 8.1 the other day and after installing and connection, it asks if you want to opt in for your free upgrade to 10.

Else it looks like this in the notification area...

My SLIC machine has the upgrade notification, will be imaging my disk and upgrading on day 1 to see how it goes.

I got the notification on my win7 machine, authorized via MStoolkit but I don't really want to lose 7, I've only just got used to it after upgrading from XP a few years ago.
