Hi lads. I've made a website for a mate. Who owns a current domain just***ink.co.uk

He has no clue about stuff like this. Basically the site was made years ago. No server details or anything are available to me.

Its due to expire in July.

Whats the best way for me to get this, for the new site I've created in WIX.

Wouldn't you just let it expire then rebuy it?

A lot of registrars allow you to pre-order so you have it straight away.

Although I would go to the current domain registrars and try to access the CP and transfer it just in case and so there is no downtime. I would also remove the URL from your post in case someone fancies being nasty and holding it ransom if you did let it expire.

I take it these would be the owners https://my.freevirtualservers.com/ ?

Im 99% sure he wont know the login details.. But will definitely try.

Whats the best way of keeping it high on the google search (As it is at the moment)

Where my new WIX one ive created for him, doesn't even show up lol.

As its a .uk domain name it will be bound by Nominets Terms and Conditions , it gives the registrant 90 Days after the domain renewal is reached to renew the domain name before it becomes available once again to the general public . The Tag holder would have already sent an email to the registrant advising of the approaching renewal date , so hopefully the mail address he has used is not used anymore.

If he does not renew the domain name you will still have to wait until October to be in with a chance of renewing it

    @ jw_2000_uk

The first approach would be to contact the current registrar
http://www.freevirtualservers.com. The domain owner should be the one to do this as they will only send the login details to manage the domain to the owner. You can then renew it through the current registrar and point the DNS to wix. This is the quickest way.

The second option is if the current registrar refuses to give out login details to manage the domain due to some circumstances e.g. the account holder no longer has access to the registered email of his account and can no longer receive the login details to manage the domain, then you can directly contact Nominet the overall registrar of UK domains through their website www.nominet.org.uk. Again, the domain owner is the one who should do this as they may require proof of IDs. Please note that with this option you will be required to choose a registrar where you can transfer the domain so you can control the DNS and also renew it.

The last option is not preferable but here it is: Once a UK domain expires and will not be renewed it will not be immediately available for registration. You will need to wait up to 90 days when the registry deletes it in the system available for registration again. Hope this helps.
