The Stephen Fry documentary "The Secret Life Of The Manic Depressive" might help answer some questions.

Just thought I would like to say thanks to everyone that's replied, especially those that have mentioned their own problems.

I'm virtually at the point of giving up on my GP, but I have got in touch with the doctor who looked after me at hospital as he independently became concerned the steroids caused a mental imbalance so hopefully he may be able to get me some help.

Mine tried telling me the same for a long time, I had to really push him. As far as I know you can only get em in 20mg Tablets and max daily dose is 60mg. I have never seen a 30mg tablet in the 7 + years I have been on em.
If your tabs are 20mg he is just holding back as mine did for a couple of years till I saw a different doc who put me onto 3.

Kind of forgot as I guess I am used to it but if you have em on an empty stomach you may get serious heart burn / stomach ache e.t.c

    Thanks to piggzy

I'm on tablets for all that too lol.
if you are on any drugs with an opiate base then you can expect to be drowsy and less competent.

I have been been on almost all of them and now I'm on 250mg of tapentadol four times a day which knocks me out if I'm not doing something.
i find the amitriptaline makes me sleepy too.

Have you got a list of drugs your taking?

I'm only on Levetiracetam 250mg twice a day to prevent possibility of any seizures, was told to stop the rest a few weeks ago. Thanks for the reminder as I don't think I've had any for the last couple of days

Part of me would love any meds they may be able to give to help, but then if I end up worse off in different ways I will probably end up annoyed again.

One of the worst drugs I had was Tramadol, works wonders for a lot of people but I had a reaction.

When it kicked in I had to hug a fence post on the edge of some field while I waited for it to wear off was there for about half an hour till I could walk again (couldnt even sit down - or felt like I couldnt) and felt shit for hours. Like a bad trip I suppose.

I think Tramadol is an attempt at a synthetic opiate .

tramadol IS a synthetic opiate, it also quickly gets your system used to the drug and you have to increase for the same pain relief. it also made my epilepsy bad as well so now I do not touch it.

if anyone is down and needs a pick up try and get these:

    co-codamol
    fluoxetine
    codeine

take 2 co-codamol (no more than 2 as it contains paracetamol)
    2 fluoxetine
    and 2 x 30mg codeine

    it will pick anyone up

obviously this is just what ive done when im really bad but it does help

Yeah I literally have drawers full of codeine collected over the years. It is mint, couple washed down with a small (fucking LARGE) glass of wine or a couple of pints and you are foaming at the mouth.
Also dunno if other get this side effect but when I have this I have no trouble getting it up but seriously cannot spunk in under an hour. The Mrs loves it. Honestly sounds like I am making it up but for me I seriously have to concentrate (which is difficult on codeine) to finish the job.

To compare if I have no drugs/alcohol in my system I am lucky to go 5 minutes.

Try it, I want feedback lol

Oh and for the record about 6 or 7 years ago I was on the beer, had the mates round and people started talking about doing drugs. Cant remember why but I pretended I had a line of Coke and snorted a couple of emptied capsules of Fluoxetine for a laugh.

I puked and my nose stung like fuck for about 3 or 4 days. Honestly don't do it. I could not even go to work the next day. Felt like I had snorted horseradish.

Im the same mate on any opiate drug even my tapentadol does this to me.
in fact I can't shoot at all if I have taken a dose in the afternoon.

my dick resembles a dogs kong toy after an hour or so!
5 minutes is a little short if your sober, tbh mate I'd say you have pme
I had to do a sperm sample a few months ago and it took me three weeks to finally get a sample.
my dick was so bloody sore because you can't use any lube but my arm is massive! Even my missus gave up after an hour.

I have no issues getting erect or even keeping it up its just the end result.

Fluoxetine is Prozac - the one I'd say be wary of is cymbalta/duloxetine, withdrawal effects are horrendous (use Prozac to taper you off and even then it's like a nice hangover with involuntary muscle spasms).

Sorry should have updated this yesterday, got a call from the local MH team, going to meet a nurse on Monday the week after next, then hopefully see a proper shrink the week afterwards, but no confirmed appointment yet. I still have a funny feeling any actual help is going to be some time still. but at least they haven't forgotten about me.

Now the bigger worry is next weeks appointment to discuss results of my last MRI. Last time I went in, I had a 20 min appointment booked and was out in 5. Today I found out they have a triple appointment booked so I have a feeling the news won't be good.

I don't normally believe in this kind of stuff but a client of mine who is probably not far away from being a real life genius wanted to employ a faith healer for me to thank me for help I had provided him. If the guy wasn't a serious genius I wouldn't have even been interested, and he claims has first hand experience of the healer defeating cancer. Unfortunately got a call back from them just earlier to say the healer says the issue is the worse of the two suspected, but he reckons my immune system can fight it but was being hindered due to some blockage he claims to have sorted.

I think I will use tonight as an excuse to get totally wankered in case I get told that drink strictly isn't an option after next Friday. (I suppose they already told me drink strictly isn't an option due to possibility of AVM so we see how long that lasts).

i'm bipolar and have been taking duloxetine for years now along with lithium and another one

everyone is different as ive had no bother with duloxetine

i've been stable now for many years, ok i take a shit load of tablets every day but im used to that

i get my bloods checked regularly, the lithium has caused an underactive thyroid, and take pills for that also

i'm glad people on the thread and myself can talk openly about the illness/tablets etc....i struggled for years without telling a soul about my struggles

my bi-polar spells lasted 6 months at a time...april to september i was so confident and life was fantastic, october to march every year i was at the lowest low, suicidal thoughts

the best thing anyone can ever do is eventually tell someone close to you how that you're struggling and then go see the doc

Try coming off duloxetine then you'll know what I mean - relatively few people have issues on it, maybe digestive issues but coming off is the hard part.
