I use NFC for my lights and Nest in my house. I use an app called Trigger that lets you program NFC tags. This with a combination of Tasker and a few plugins lets me control my Hue lights, milights and Nest by holding my phone next to the NFC tag.
I only really use it when I go to bed which sets the Milights to off in the hallway, the stairs philips hues on, the living room hues fade off after 10 seconds, bedroom hue on, toilet hue one, Nest set to 15 degrees and then turn all lights off after a few mins.
Sorry, my bad for not being particularly explicit with what I meant - the price you pay for posting a message about 5 minutes before bed after a bloody long week.
I was referring to the EE Cash on Tap app for making payments NFC payments.
But with that said, what you've mentioned in your post is really interesting as it wasn't something I'd really thought about.
I've just had a quick look at the Milights. Is it just the bulbs you've bought rather than say a switch that has WiFi or NFC built into it? It all hangs off of the Nest appliance and then that detects whereabouts in your house you are based on the NFC tags?
