    Default Which drone to buy?

One of my mates is looking to buy a drone, he would like it to have a camera and possibly a screen to watch it on as a live feed. I knew a lot of you had some so said I would ask your advice on what to get. Budget of about £300.

    Cheers!

ive been looking at getting a drone as for your mate no where near his budget, but possibly worth a thought and save up for, is the Dji phantom, either the phantom 2 with vision around £600, or the new phantom 3 adv or pro £890 or £1110, not sure how good a drone with live view for 300 will be

When starting out with drones, for gods sake advise your mate to not buy an expensive one straight off the bat.

You buy a cheap one, learn the dynamics and go from there. Go read the crazy, laughable stories about people that buy an expensive drone and crash it or simply lose it on the first flight. If you smash/lose one for £30-odd quid its no hassle really. £300 is a different matter.

Something like an X5C (£38) flys totally superb. Do not think these expensive ones will be easier at flying than the cheaper ones, that's simply not the case.

Cheaper FPV quads tend to have some slight lag on the screen, check out some other videos from Quadcopter101 below - he's really good showing off FPV quads and such like.

Obviously if he has some experience then great, but otherwise he's nuts if he spends £300 straight away.

i would tell him to get X5C as above post, so he can get used to handling the controls, xc5 has only a short range of 50-70 feet, it handles well for a cheap quad,
then when confident with it then go for the 1st gen phantom as thay in his budget.
these are a few vids i did with my xc5

DJi Phantom FC40 matches that description, albeit the live view using a companion app on a phone/tablet. I think DJi have discontinued them now but I'm sure they're still available. I think mine was £360 new about 18mnths ago or thereabouts, still going strong. Piss easy to fly right out of the box, very shallow learning curve.

Have you considered building one, there seem to be various quad kits at the 450 size you're after. Have a look at the link below.

+1 for the Phantom 3, I have the P3 Advanced (1080p) and it is far and away the best Quad you can get for the money. The standout features are the incredible range, there is a Youtube video of someone flying theirs 6 km out with full video (back to the remote). I flew mine today in 30km/h winds and it was rock solid (battery went quick though). DJI have screwed over a lot of Inspire owners who paid upto 3 times as much for the kind of features you have as standard on the Phantom 3, but then thats progress.

I've already written about it, basically its just a slick video and plenty of promise but nothing more.

I would definitely caution against placing a pre-order since they charge your credit card for the full amount claiming its necessary to fund the development.

So basically if the whole thing collapses you have zero comeback.

To be honest the dji phantoms are a piece of piss to fly, they have GPS so hover where you leave them unless it's a strong wind. Drones without GPS tend to be a bit more tricky.
