Default Code needed for Blaupunkt CAR300 radio fitted to Vauxhall Astra

Not sure if a code will help actually.
Car been standing for two years but decided to break for parts. Have had an enquiry about the radio so need to see if its any good. Have the GM passport number for the radio but its constantly showing 'SAFE' on the display. It doesn't change to 10_ _ _ _ to allow me to enter a code.

Is it knackered or permanently locked or is it possible someone has in the past entered a wrong code a few times and its gone into a wait state before it allows another attempt? (">

Fitted to an S reg astra.
    Serial Number: GM0300W5293339

Switch on ignition then switch on radio whilst holding down the AS button. A number indicating how many code tries you have left followed by 4 dashes should then be displayed (e.g.10 - - - -) Enter the code using keys 1-4 as per Method 1 above and finally press and hold the AS key to "enter" the code.
    your code should be 8940

    Thanks to russell

Thanks for the info but did originally try entering the original pass key by pressing AS while switching on but just displays 'SAFE'. Does not change to 10 _ _ _ _ to allow code entry. Just read some info that on some models the radio is married to the ECU, in which case there is only one place for it... the bin, because the ECU is faulty. Does anyone know if this is the case. Will try again tomorrow anyway but not holding out much hope at the moment. (">
