OPENBOX V8S - Setup

Hi all,

I'm utterly new to this... Looking through the menu at things like sat directions is scaring me I've bought a new £36 OpenBox V8S from eBay and have been reading around the set up for it. What do you recommend for minimal fuss over the next 12 months? So far I have:

1. Updated the channel list using Detector's Channel List App (Thanks!)

2. Scanned for new channels via the menu.

.. but what are my next steps ....

-3. Should I now buy a 12mth gift from eBay? Can anyone recommend a link to use? This is a cline right?

-4. Would it be worth looking into flashing a different firmware/menu? Or is the stock one fine? I'd deffo want to have an working EPG eventually.

Is the Openbox enigma 2? If not I'd get rid of it and an enigma 2 box.

The first box I had was an open box and to be honest it was a lump of shit.

All the good EPG etc are on enigma.

I'd go on a monthly payment for the gifts as you'll never know when they might just up and disappear.

It's just a cheap Generic/Unbranded one off eBay. All the FreeSat channels work fine, as does the EPG. Not looking to spend too much. I may upgrade at a later date.

Where is good to buy 'gifts' from? Would THIS be ok?

To be honest I couldn't tell you, I know they lost HD channels a while back and I stopped using mine.

For the money just give it a try if it's not any good it's a lesson learned.

There's forums that do that sort of stuff for £10 per year. Just Google card share forums

Avoid eBay and Amazon loads of sellers disappear as satzzz says these quite few CS forums with long established servers

Oh and use mgcamd (nline) rather than a cccam (cline)

I need to have a play with oscam at some point as I've noticed that mgcamd uses quite a bit of CPU - it's currently sitting at 6% of one of the 1.3GHz cores so it's not a problem but I just want to have a tinker and see how oscam performs.

I just set up a new Miraclebox Premium Micro last week and they're a nice little box, only dual 750MHz but they're quick and for the majority of tasks it doesn't seem much different to my LX3. The new Zgemma boxes are due any day which are the same spec and I put one of the 2S in with the in laws and they love it!

Is the remote with the Zero the same as the Duo2 please mate? Every box I've had so far has had the same remote - the XP1000, LX3 and Miraclebox Premium Micro I guess are all coming out of the same factory.

I might have also learnt this the hard way... I bought a one month cccam (cline) off eBay. It seems to work (with EPG & HD ch's), but will 'freeze' on some channels. VERY annoying!

I guess this can be am experimental stop gap before I get a decent mgcamd (nline) sorted from somewhere?
