The new Films in the Alien Franchise.. Alien 5 or Prometheus 2

So what are people thought on the 2 directions the Alien franchise is heading.

Loved all the Original Alien films then didn't know what I felt about prometheus.

Now it is splitting with Ridley scott in the process of making Alien : Paradise Lost (Prometheus 2)

With a different director (Neill Bloomkamp) starting on Alien 5, which apparently carries on from Aliens , kind of ignoring Alien 3 & Resurrection (not sure how this will happen)

What are people thoughts on this and what would you like to see happen. I think I would like to see Alien 5 but not sure about how he plans to do it?!?!?

I'm a big fan of the first 2 Alien films and refuse to acknowledge the existence of any of the films made after 1986. They fucked them all up big time with ridiculous story lines, huge budgets and too much CGI. All that's needed is lots of tension and scary bits in the first half and and a shed load of colonial marines with flame throwers and M41A pulse rifles killing the evil little fuckers in the second half.
Its a simple equation Xenomorphs+Guns+Grimy run down environment = Good. Charlize Theron+Monks with sticks+Shiny white space ships = Shit.

I don't hold out much hope for either of the new films. The studios will chuck to much money into them, and the accountants will demand big names or old faces to bring in the punters.

I'd be interested to see Blomkamp do a 'retcon' though. I remember reading a version of the Alien 3 script a few years ago in which Hicks and a rebuilt Bishop went hunting aliens on a space station after sending Ripley and Newt back to Earth. It was pretty good.

Pretty sure I read that script - in fact it may have been in the original graphic novel that happened. Wasn't that the story where Predators are on Earth too?

As a fan of the comic book series years ago I think they fuxked up after aliens with alien 3 as well. I'm liking the ideas behind both films though as both could carry on the canon from the comics.

Apparently the director has offered to delay it a bit to allow Ridley offering to be released in a separate sort of time frame...

Blomkamp was the director of district 9 which I thought was very well done , so I think he could make a good Alien film.

I would love to see the Alien movies based on the novels written by Steve Perry covering the story of Wilks and Billie (the two characters are based on Hicks and Newt).

Think I would have preferred that to the Alien 3 that was made.

Alien 3 fell victim to 'too many cooks spoil the broth'. The story line was rewritten several times during the filming. The original script had the prison planet being made out of wood... Allegedly Sigourney Weaver also got involved with the script, demanding that no guns be used. A major part of Aliens storyline was about keeping Hicks and Newt alive. Killing then in the beginning of Alien3 stuck two fingers up to the previous film and insulted the audiences.

I think we should set our expectations for alien 5 to be a cgi action flick with limited storyline. I don't think an alien horror will appeal to the mass market. Plus the criticism of the later alien film (and predator) would push the producers further away from the first 2 films. The real problem is that the first 2 films were that damn good that any remake or follow on will be compared and fall short. If they make an all out alien v marine cgi kill fest, then I would got and see it!!
