Default Power for dashcam without big socket?

Ive just received my dashcam and want to wire it up with as little wire etc visible.

I want to install it in a MK5 golf, and dont want the power simply plugged into the 12v cigarette type lighter.

What are the options out there? that arent as cumbersome?

Depending on how you want it powered, I used one of these and wired it into my sidelights.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/20039...s=true&ff13=80

Then by turning the sidelights on, the dashcam would power up and begin recording automatically. The camera required its own battery to hold the TDS though.

Or splice it into a perm live from your car stero, and just use the power button on the dashcam if it has one.

I'm hoping to get a dashcam for xmas, I've dropped a few hints ! anyway You may want to record while the car is stationary and parked, so might be worth considering a permanent live feed via a fused link, just my 10 pence worth .......

    Regards

A permanent live may flatten the battery, could you splice a switched live from the vanity light? Might be worth mentioning the dashcam make as mine runs from USB power I.e. 5v. So had to route wire round to USB adapter in 12 ciggy lighter in the armrest. No wires visible though.

You can get battery discharge prevention kits which basically have three connections - one to ground, one to permanent 12v and the other to switched (ie ACC) 12v. You connect them into the fuse boxes and they then either give you cigarette lighter adapters or mini / micro USB connections which are always live until your battery drops below a certain level.

The easiest way to hook them up is via add-a-fuse connections which you get off amazon and then piggy back into your fuse box. I've been running over 12 months now with no battery issues this way

I've got one of those, lukas off memory and have still had a flat battery a few times when the car hasn't had a decent run out or been used for a few days. Dunno if the unit is shagged or worked but then the standard drain from alarm etc has taken it over the brink. As for wiring though just poked the wires in fuse holder then put the fuse back in to hold, there was a convenient bolt for the earth.

piggy back it into your fusebox. Always done it that way and found it to b the most reliable and no need to be splicing other existing wiring
