Do you know what, it's not actually that bad. It's a million miles from the original but as far as reboots / remakes go, it's OK.

Hated it. Even judging it as a standalone story it's wank.
Getting sick of Melissa Mcarthy now, her last few films have been shit. She's the female Adam Sandler and every next film she does will get worse just like his do...

I haven't minded Melissa McCarthy on the most part. I quite enjoyed identity thief and heat. I don't find her belly stretchingly funny like my missus does but just 'okay'.
I agree whole heartedly with the sandler analogy though, like america is conviced en-masse that she's the best thing in comedy so everything has to have her in, and they are trying to write for her rather than let her act. Spy for example was fekin awful.
As for remaking classic movies, I generally don't like it but many of them have failed before they start because of the expectation. For example, Total Recall is one of my all time favourites and the Colin Farrell remake isn't a patch on it BUT as a standalone movie it's actually not that bad.
This doesn't stop me dreading bladerunner 2049 and Trainspotting 2 which are two of my all time favourites.

Yeah I agree with the total recall thing and expectations. With that people compare to an 80's/90's arnie flick. Which it never will be.
So so many remakes are guff. As a fan of the horror / sci-fi genres I see loads of them. Rarely have any been better than the original. Some films definitely should be left alone IMO. Like Malty says even the good remakes don't better the original but maybe are as good as standalone movies. Rob Zombies first Halloween for example.

Just watched this as it has arrived on Netflix.....and it's terrible.
But I think the reason that it's terrible is not because it's a bad Ghostbusters movie, but because it's a chick flick (that happens to be about Ghostbusters).
Female centric jokes, lots of whoo-ing and shrieking, a hot dumb bloke and other bumbling blokes - all absolutely fine in a chick flick....but totally out of place in a Ghostbusters film.
If you can stomach the first hour or so, it's worth watching for the cameos and the final battle sequences.....but I definitely found this movie hard work.
