Default Cheap Holiday recommendations for 2 under £500

Me and the missus decided we need a break. We've booked 30th Mar - 6th Apr off and want somewhere to go, cheap.

My birthday during this time, so kills 2 birds with a single stone.

Got £500 to spend. I like hot places (last trip was Greece). Missus not been away since she was 12! Not sure about City breaks because I reckon boredom would set in and we'd stay in the hotel a shag like rabbits... Not necessarily a bad thing.

What would you recommend? Was looking at Amsterdam, Prague and Lake District, but now not sure.

Seen Morocco trips seeming OK or even possibly Sharma (flights looking impossible, so cheap trip!). Just want a good place to spend the week, stress free.

Crete. Plenty to do, hot, cheap and good food. If you do visit Samaria Gorge. Largest in Europe.

Funny enough, I've been to Crete every year for the past 4 years. Mostly in Elounda and Malia. Nice place, but not many deals under £500 and TBF, I'd prefer elsewhere.

    Was considering Cyprus again perhaps.

Are you looking for a package deal?

We used Air B&B for our holiday back to England last month and apart from a few minor problems we had a great experience renting a whole 2 bed house in Sheffield and a 2 bed apartment in London, in both cases it was way cheaper than a hotel since there was 4 of us and the baby.

I'm looking for something to do for the week I'm off that's not gonna cost me a limb.

Getting annoyed surfing so many websites offering great deals only for the price to change halfway through the process.

We have booked 8 days in Majorica again this year £660 all in inc flights/transfers etc etc

give teletext holidays a lookup then alpha rooms and play one of with the other

Hotel a great all inclusive, so will work out cheap in the long run

I know its slightly over 500 but its well worth it for the free beer alone

    Thanks to Mickey

Air BnB and look into some Spanish or Italian Cities. Further out in france. We got a stomping deal in middle of Barcelona, we paid £150 for a weeks accommodation. Food cheap, drink cheap, lots to do for city. France and Italy can offer the same.

Does it need to be abroad, what about somewhere in the highlands? Lakes, Somerset, Cornwall?

Whats the aim, rest, eat and drink, or immerse in culture, nightlife, day life, active?

    Cheers.....Q

Prefer abroad if it's available for the price, but not adverse to staying in the UK.

Just don't want to spend loads of money and run out of things do.

It's just a week away with the missus who hasn't left the country since she was 12 and want to make it something to remember.

I'm not well travelled myself and am totally clueless.

Check out holiday pirates, they come out with last minute stuff regularly, they had flights to Mexico for £199 a couple of weeks ago in your time frame from thmopson (doubt they are there anymore!)

Been watching Holiday Pirates, they're the ones that change things when you show interest in a booking.

I was going to suggest Morocco as soon as I saw the title. I love that place and it's so cheap. It's not for everyone, it is after all a muslim country, but I am completely in love with the place.

The place you go depends on what you are looking for. Marrakesh is definitely worth a look, but a bit hectic to spend too much time there. Bus trips are cheap. Essaouira is my favourite place, more laid back nicer scenery. I hate Agadir, it's like a French Benidorm. I'd always stay in a Riad before a hotel too. Although I have stayed in hotels when on a golf trip.

Everything is cheap, except alcohol because it's haram, and I love their food so much

I'm down in London. But can fly direct to Essaouira for 60 quid a ticket with easyjet. A decent riad is about 60 a night. Food is dirt cheap. Weather is good. It was also a choice destination of The Stones, Hendrix etc in the 60s.

As a bit of an alternative we used these 2 years ago and although UK was absolutely brilliant. Loved it and plan to do it again.

Really chilled out and loved cooking on the big cast iron wood burner.
Also had an outdoor pizza oven you could use and it was spot on. Best pizza ever had .

    Highly recommend

    Portugal would be my shout.

If you go up the coast you can get a decent apartment for around £15 a night!

I can recommend Studio 17 below.

    https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_...t_Algarve.html

and the beach at Praia da Rocha which is 10 minutes walk or 2 minutes drive has to be one of the best in the Algarve if not in Europe.

Car hire is dirt cheep at this time of year too though you can get a transfer to the resort on resort hopper for around £15 if your on a budget.

    Thanks to JonEp

Not Amsterdam, flights & hotel may be cheap but the place will bankrupt you quickly.

Bit like Barca, went for NYE and it was amazing but if you drink in the nice/trendy areas you're looking at £8+ a drink (a lot more in Opium, Pacha etc). Supermarket booze is incredibly cheap though. Loads to do but everything costs entry.

Could have a look at the flights on Ryanair/easy jet and plan around that.
