Default Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3

Just back home from my trip, I've found a layout that I like and have printed it out to scale but I have a bit of a dilemma. The kit I bought has 8 x 30mm buttons per player but I can't think why I'd ever need any more than 6.

Does anyone know different before I commit to 6 ?

    cheers,

    malty

I'm sure I read somewhere that it's a pain mapping the buttons from 1 usb device onto 2 players. It may have been old info but i purposely went for the 1 player = 1 usb device route

Escaped from family hell for 5 mins this evening and drilled out my control panel.

I don't have any screws short enough to mount the joystick at the moment so that's why I'm holding it in situ (as you can see the other is hanging by it's ball)

The switches feel fine and fit rather nicely although I am going to have to take them all out and re-spray the panel as the wood shavings broke the paint here and there.

    Quite pleased.

Need to buy some more paint in the morning and some fixing screws.

**edit - as you can see, I decided on 8 buttons - might as well use them as I had them and I read a few posts about mapping extra buttons for shoulder buttons on psx etc

I have been buffing up on the controller modules too it seems some of the usb xinmo or whatever they're called have issues and getting the ones that emulate keystrokes (ipac) are the best to go for, that company wells them too and I believe the 2 player ipace ones should be ok but that's not something I have done yet

There are ways to fix the issue with the xinmo by installing and editing some files/drivers to the unix kernel which does not recognize the signals for 2 of the directions on the 4 way pad

I managed to get mine up and running...ish last night. Still a few things to sort but I see a crack of light

I have used the iPacs before and also some of the cheaper alternatives, I would never recommend anything other than an iPac, they can be a little but more pricey but you definitely get what you pay for.

Had a couple of hours to play around yesterday and got my Pi3 installed in my new media case:

    WP_20160910_15_55_21_Pro.jpg

So in there is my Pi3 with 2 Heatsinks added to the main chips
Boots from a 128GB MicroSD Card
Has an internal 4TB HDD connected via USB

gives me all the power and video connections pushed to the back (very neat!)
    includes a 5v 3A power supply

    Installed Kodi and RetroPie
USB HDD is 21% full at the moment and I have most stuff on it, got to load a ton more dreamcast games however

I wanted to get my 360 wireless receiver mounted internally too but theirs just not enough space unless I take it apart, so I have opted to just have it plugged in one of the back USB ports.
This also came with a remote but im struggling to get that working (not that i've really tried as my TV supports CEC so i can use the TV remote to control Kodi)
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

I just had a chat with the boss at SB components, hes just around the corner from me, less than 2 miles away lol

Such a lovely guy and they are doing some crazy pi shit over there, anyway you need to ftp the attached files to the kodi folder...sorted

    Copying the keymapping files
    • Start up your ftp client and connect to the MEDIAPI+
    • copy lircd.conf to /storage/.config
    • copy Lircmap.xml to /storage/.kodi/userdata
    • Note: the .config and .kodi folders are hidden. You may need to enable viewing of hidden folders in your FTP client (please refer to the application help for your specific tool).
    • Now reboot OPENELEC and your IR and media remote should be working.

Now does anyone here know how to sort the dreamcast games which all have the same named subfiles .raw or is it just 1 at a time?

Now to pester arcadeworld about some controller parts

    Thanks to MajorFU

Manic day because I've been back and forth to the hospital but I got the pi in the cabinet and connected up to the new joysticks/buttons for the first time this evening. Very happy with the stick and buttons. They feel just right.

Instantly started getting decent scores on all of my favourite games.

Had some problems with the new tv, couldn't get any sound over hdmi and had to make some changes to the pi's config.txt to get it to work.

Very happy with everything. Need to attach the rear door and make a monitor surround and some perspex. I want to mount some proper speakers, cut in my 1p and 2p start buttons (they are smaller than the others) and I have some moulding ordered from ebay to finish off the edges.

Oh and it's in the house now ;-)

Get it finished mind! It's so easy to get things in a 'working state' that you down tools and live with it.
It looks great! I love the fact it was a case of picking up a jigsaw and having a blast, the proper way! Too many people spend too much time with 3D designs etc..

Believe it or not, the driving force behind cracking on with it so well has been the missus. She bought the jigsaw and egged me on to buy the raw materials.

I've put some chrome edging on today which actually looks great and I'm going out in search of some Perspex this afternoon although I have no idea how I'm going to mount it. I should probably make and mount the monitor surround first mind you.

Made the screen surround today & found a local plastics firm that will supply and cut a piece of plastic for the screen to the correct size for £7.50 plus vat. Just have to go pick it up tomorrow morning early. Need to paint the screen surround and the small bit of the inside cab that's exposed. Still have to get some speakers plus a small amp and mount/wire them.

Got a day away with the family tomorrow so probably won't get anything done now until Thurs or even Fri

    Hey malty, looks fookin ace!!

Funnily enough I just connected in the lounge and no sound on the tv even with same hdmi, could not get it working so just changed to 3.5mm audio and connected to speakers in the lounge but both TV are Samsung so strange only 1 worked

Please post the file name and location and edit deets when ur done for that, I am interested!

So mine is working great apart from sound in the lounge, got my 2500 mame roms working, over 7000 zx games and lots of psx and Nintendo and sega, also neogeo and more that ive forgotten lol Also had some fun with Kodi, seemed to crash and after checking the crashfile it didn't like ps3 controller and usb keyboard plugged in so now ps3 is working on Bluetooth no issues there now. Really happy with it, thanks to all for the great info here and mystical2k for some help and great advice on that case when u consider it was £35 and u r at least £15 for a decent 3A psu with miro usb out its a fooking bargin Spent £70 as already had the HD just doing shitall and my 13 year old just bowled in and said "it's boss" and went back sown to play some more so coming from and xbox one addict such praise can be no higher lol

    Thanks to MajorFU

If your having sound issues, look here: https://github.com/retropie/retropie...i/sound-issues

First and foremost try forcing hdmi by adding the following to /boot/config.txt:
    hdmi_drive=2
If you do the above, log out of EmulationStation (F4)
You will need to use Putty or something similar to SSH in to edit the file, or you can download an FTP program and do it that way but I find Putty is just quicker

I did mine in the console on the pi itself with a usb keyboard. Selected exit from emulationstation and it boots you back to a command line.

    sudo nano /boot/config.txt

opens up a text editor with the file you need to change.

uncommenting hdmi_drive=2 didn't fix the issue for me

I also had to add the following.

    hdmi_force_edid_audio=1

The hdmi_drive=2 line probably has a # before it which means the system will ignore it.

You need to remove the # then save & reboot

I'm guessing it means remove the # before the command as when I did this for the hdmi drive 2 command it works fine on both TV yay
