I'm thinking about buying one, I've seen the games on it are really impressive such as Sim City and Sims 3. Now it's been out for a while, Does anyone have any say on it? Pros/cons? Is 3G necessary?

i don't find 3g necessary as I mainly use it at home. I thought I would regret not getting the 3G version but it's never crossed my mind. That said, I do have a mifi unit for when out and about.
The iPad is a fantastic bit of kit, but only you can decide if it's right for you.
The below is the pro's / con's for me personally
Pros
amazing battery life
screen & touch screen great
instant on (no boot up time)
gorgeous design
Cons
initial price

Also bear in mind the rumours of a smaller 7" version being released in he near future.
i think the 10" is the perfect size for mainly in house or hotel use. A 7" one would be more suited to 'out and about' as more portable. The majority of the current iPad case is taken up by the battery so a 7" tablet would have a proportionally smaller battery (and maybe a bit smaller power consumption)

Initially I was very sceptical and posting on this forum once or twice prior to buying I had been accused of Trolling as I couldn't see the point in a giant iPod touch ( Don't upset the Apple Fan Cart ). However after eventually succumbing to my Gadget addiction I went for it (32 gig none 3G) and can honestly say it's the best bit of kit I have purchased since I bought a Swiss Army Knife !
Same as FLik said..... It's the biz
I'd love an iPad, my wife would love one too, but there were two things putting me off. The first being lack of print support - seemed silly but this will be here in November with iOS4.2.
The second, and the one that still stands, is that i'm sure Apple will release a retina display version next year. I held off on getting an iPhone until the 3GS came along (and whatever OS debuted at the time) and it finally met all my needs. I'm a well established Apple fanboy but I'm also the first to admit they limit the abilities of their kit in order to have new features next year. For that reason i'm holding off for v.2 next spring. Worth keeping in mind.
The display is HD awesomeness dude and there are loads of Apps that let you print your docs. You really need to see one in action if you think the screen quality needs or can be improved. As for a 7 inch version I wish they had a Table sized version. Now that would be cool !
I've had plenty of time to play with one and i agree...they thing is lovely. However, i also thought the same of my iPhone 3GS until i saw a retina display on an iPhone 4. Now i have a '4
It's not the movies, it's the text. I work an a ship for months at a time and read a lot on my iPhone. If I got an iPad it would be used totally offline when at sea and its performance as an ebook reader is paramount. Text looks awesome on the '4 and not so good on the iPad.
I'm not for a minute indulging in iPad bashing - on the contrary I think they're seriously impressive, I just think it's not right for my specific uses. Yet.
Sorry mate but txt on iPad is awesome. iBooks Stanza etc rocks just ask Rap and the rest of the Bookworms. I have an iPhone 4 and IPad pisses on it from a great height for reading ebooks etc. I still use my iPhone 4 for reading and that's awesome anyway. Anyway this is my last post on this thread. I will let one of the other IPad monkeys take over. My advice though to you is to not buy one !
Yeah, we got a little off topic there. The OP was after opinions and mine is that I'm hooked, but i'm afraid of a better one round the corner and end up spending more money like i did with my iPhones.
I would get an android one, but still, it's lacking in games and I would like to play them too. I've only found a few games on Android as where the iPad, it seems a fair few. Can the aPad support a full keyboard?
the apad is a dog, unless it's been updated since I last saw it.
Resistive touch screen = inaccurate & no multitouch

I'll no doubt rock the boat with this, but I'm pretty underwhelmed by the iPad it must be said. I'm over in the US atm so picked one up cheap last week (well, compared to UK prices).
I got the 32GB wifi version. I can see if you've come from a non-iPhone or even a 3G/S it'd be amazing. But once you've used the retina display on the iPhone4 it really puts anything the iPad has to shame.
The lack of ios4 is also a pain in the arse, and running iPhone apps in 2x mode (like tapatalk as i'm using to type this) look awful.
I'm just gonna sell this one once word of a new retina version appears but certainly couldn't recommend this over an iphone4.

FYI there's a jailbroken app that correctly formats iPhone apps for the iPad screen. Facebook etc look much better while using it

Y it's easily found on Cydia and is v good but not great for games although most decent games have been ported to iPad resolution by now. It's called FullForce !

aye, couldn't remember the name of it off the top of my head. Plus, going back to Belial's point about recommending it over an iPhone4. I think you're missing the point. iPhone is my always in my pocket always connected device. iPad is sitting at home on the sofa browsing websites device. I use it to watch sky sports (I don't have sky at home) and also (now) playing mame.
It's the fact that it's a bigger screen not that it's higher def that you want when doing these things.
