Just got a 27" 2560 x 1440 resolution monitor and loving the inches more than Pamela Anderson, but, I have found that running 1080p and some higher bitrate 720p videos isn't as smooth as it should be. My mobo is old and only supports PCIe v1.1, so this could be the reason, after reading up earlier it seems that v1.1 motherboards will handle almost any spec graphics card but obviously throttle the data throughput to its own limitations. I initially thought my graphics card was the issue, since its nowt special (Radeon 6450) but its not so old so it may not be the cause of the problem. Can anyone direct me in my spending direction? I was about to buy a Radeon 7970 for around £120, which is supposed to be 'ok' for gaming at this resolution, but I would imagine that running HD video is a breeze compared to running games, so maybe my gfx card is upto the job and its the mobo thats the issue.I do plan to upgrade the rest of the system eventually, the Core2duo 3ghz I have doesn't carry many bragging rights these days.
