I received my free copy of Casino Royale this weekend which was nice for free.

I put the disk in and straight away had resolution issues. I had my output set to 720p and at this setting when the film booted a quater of the screen could not be seen (special features could not be seen on the screen). I set my output to 1080i and it worked fine. Very strange although I use a HDMI to DVI cable which has before worked flawlessly.

At the start of the disc is a demo of Blueray output which absolutely blew me away. The picture was crisp and the colours looked amazing. I then put the film on and the quality of the video was nowhere near the quality of the demo material. At times it looked better than DVD but often the picture looked dusky and non HD. Especially scenes like the crane near the beginning where the camera pans across the sky it doesnt look sharp at all. Very dissapointing. If the other fims are like this there is no way im gonna pay 17 odd quid for them. Ive seen HD DVD stuff and it looks lots better. If the blueray films look the same as the demo material then great but it didnt, WTF.

Im just glad I didnt pay for the film as it gave me little extra from the DVD copy I have.

What are other peoples experiences?
