I was going through the usual daily list of spam emails in Outlook when I spotted one from Apple...
It was a phishing email addressed to my personal work email address, spoofed very well and with the subject title 'Apple ID Temporarily Locked'. Hovering over the URL text 'Validate My Apple/iCloud Account Details' within the email, I made a note of the .co.uk domain it was pointing to:
https://<URL HERE>/myappleaccountmessageview-ticketid8912380357849182-wua-secureapple/?email=<my email address here>
A basic whois lookup provided me with the individual full name and address of the owner, who also happened to register the domain with 123-reg the same day I got the phishing email - today 13/7/14. I have notified abuse@123-reg.co.uk and attached the orginal email for their attention.
Do you think anything will come of it? Would a hacker be that stupid? Perhaps this guy (domain owner) is the victim of credit card fraud? Should I rally the DF troops and get some payback??
