Scraping the barrel a bit this one isn't it?

Been away a while... Are the Scousers quieter this year?
If not, they should be....
Sometimes managers just really like players. They like their attitudes and they know them well enough to be able to place faith in them at key times. Hodgson obviously feels that way about Konchesky. He may feel he's also a good dressing room influence. Maybe he tells really good jokes and gives great back-rubs.
I would have prefered his replacement at fulham. Salcido looked like a great player for Mehico!

Cole, Gibbs, Warnock, Baines, Bridge.
Where does Konchesky come? 3rd you say?
Im not going to argue ......
Wayne Bridge is shit? Why are people always so hyperbolic when it comes to football players' relative merits?

Because otherwise discussions would be so damn boring!
It's still hyperbole to call him shit. I've seen him perform adequately on a number of occasions while playing at the highest level, the Premiership and in the Champion's League. He was signed for a fair whack of money by Chelsea and he was initially their starter until he got injured and they brought in del Horno. After that he was understudy to Cole. Playing second fiddle to arguably one of the world's greatest left backs doesn't make you shit. It just means that you're not as good as that other player. The fact that he stayed at Chelsea for six or seven years means that successive managers thought enough of him to keep him there whether it be as cover or to start a number of games. I think he was even captain once or twice and then Hughes signs him for a double figure sum last year year and has since played 39 games.
He's no Paolo Maldini, or Evra or Lahm for that matter, but he's certainly not shit. He's actually a very consistent and dependable left back that falls short of being world class and would start regularly for 70-80% of the Premiership's clubs. If he's shit, then so is the Premiership.

I think you're losing perspective and being too analytical with this Walter. Yes, as things stand, Bridge is probably a very good footballer - I am shit, not being able to kick a ball straight over 5 metres, and undoubtedly Bridge is infinitely better than me, and roughly 6.5 billion other people in the world. However, it would make for a series of very boring discussions if we didn't use hyperbole about just about everything we discuss openly on a forum. Especially with football, which is generally a very emotive subject. So sorry, whilst he may be an averagely good Premiership level footballer, in the context of this discussion he is shit. He is a player who consecutive managers at club and international level have deemed not actually quite good enough to be their starting left back. Wherever he has been since he moved to Chelsea he has been ultimately benched, and if you're not good enough to play for your team, you are shit.
Yeah, but that should read, 'if you're not good enough to be a starting eleven player for the best team in the country you are shit'. And that, you see, is true perspective.
No, he's been injured since before the start of the season. The new kid Kolarov is probably going to want to make the position his own in the not too distant future though one would imagine. Bridge isn't getting any younger at 30 odd so you'd think he will.
