quite a high wattage so will it be OK for tinning and simmering wires this small?

I'd say it would be fine on wire but would be wary with components but not overly experienced myself.

dont really do component soldering, just wires from time to time whenever I have a project on the go...
It'll be fine just don't go crazy with it. Keep light handed.

Watch your fingers as well, an iron with that sort of Wattage has a lot of hot metal in front of the handle (in my experience).
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

I must say 80W is a fucking poker, not a soldering iron. How big is the bit? - big ones take ages to cool down.
80W isnt big. This is what you call a big soldering iron. Was originally bought for soldering battery lugs on a vehicle but these days I mainly use it for poking into the eyes of my enemies before dismembering and finally killing them. Very effective...Anyone here got a problem with that? (">
