Default Xmas got a wii u for my daughter

So daughter wants a wii u for Xmas.

tbh I'm a little pissed off about this as we had the wii for about 5 months before it got thrown in the cupboard.
now the wii hasn't been touched since.

Her mates have a wii u and she wants one.
we did get a bargain from and online retailer shop to.
£159 with two games it's only an 8gb console but I can add more later apparently?

The wii had a wiikey in it from day one (by me) so if any new mods come out if not already are the wii games compatible with the wii u?

Pretty sure you can softmod the wii side of the wii u, just not the wii u side to play backups, from what i did read it plays backups from similar to the original wii usb loaders etc

    Thanks to PlauGE

This my WiiU is modded to play wii games from external hdd same as wii was no probs at all and pretty easy to set up.

No way to play wiiu backup games but having the wii games available is good and the wiiu has some awesome games to play .. .zombiu, mario 3d world, windwaker hd, super mario and luigui wiiu etc etc

theres been a ODE device on the horizon for about a year now, I think its from the wiikey team which is giving people faith in it but the main problem would probably be the real lack of market for a potentially expensive device.

Just grab the big releases and leave her to cupboard it on 5 months again

Got our kids a Wii U last Xmas (like yourself, at a good price). It was used Xmas Day and possibly Boxing Day, then never switched on again. So 2 months later it was all boxed up, as new, put on eBay and sold for what we paid for it. We lost out quite a bit on the 4 "big release" type games we bought with it. I hope your Daughter enjoys it, and you keep it. But if you end up selling, it shouldn't cost you too much.

    Thanks to tips

I still have the wii and wii fit and all the extra stuff we bout so it's not going to hurt keeping a wii u with it in the loft lol.

will the wii fit work with the wii u?

Picked up Super Smash Bros Brawl for £15 at CEX and followed this guide https://gbatemp.net/threads/full-vwii-softmod.339899/

All works a treat and is very easy. Don't think you can use disks though but a USB stick in the back is sooo much easier anyway and no disk scratches

There was talk of a browser exploit but I don't think it allows access to the full WiiU, like the wii mode hack.
I don't think its been patched in the updates yet so the forced updates are a bit of a worry incase they do get round to it.
That said it's no use for backups atm without access to the full WiiU, much like the early PS3 exploits.

Browser exploit was patched but like you say it's not giving full access. For backups there are "apparantly" two ODEs in the pipeline but that will not give us homebrew but backups would be OK.

It seems that some hackers almost hacked Wii U!
